Yeah, that's why when I visited Frisco you had dry counties where hard liquor sales were prohibited and/or sales shut down at 10:00.JohnStOnge wrote:If you grew up next to Texas and exposed to the Texas culture I don't think you'd be all that surprised by this. I don't know if it'll make it through this time but would not be at ALL surprised if I see marijuana legalized in Texas during my lifetime.
Texas is a relatively Libertarian state. I think it is one of the more Libertarian states in the Union. In fact on balance I think it's more Libertarian than Washington and Colorado are.

That's why I said, "on balance." On balance I think it's more of a "keep government out of my face" State than either Colorado or Washington is.Yeah, that's why when I visited Frisco you had dry counties where hard liquor sales were prohibited and/or sales shut down at 10:00.

Depends on how you define "keep government out of my face."JohnStOnge wrote:That's why I said, "on balance." You're comparing Texas to two of the most liberal states in the country to make your point?JohnStOnge wrote:That's why I said, "on balance." Coudn't care less. Won't change our company policy of not allowing it. Pot smokers aren't a protected class.dbackjon wrote:Any comment, Z?

But they DID have a church on every corner...literally.

I was shocked we were able to find a liquor store in Roosevelt a couple of weeks ago. But they probably do pretty good business with all the oil patch workers.GrizFanStuckInUtah wrote:Are you talking about Utah?kalm wrote:

Guess what, it's legal to NOT hire smokers. It's legal to NOT hire drinkers. It's legal to NOT hire pot smokers. NONE of them are a "protected class". Although if nanny state libs had their way I'm sure all THREE would be....VictorG wrote:Should say, "do you ban people who drink alcohol?"dbackjon wrote:

I don't, just curious. If someone is dumb enough to tell you they smoke pot in an interview, of course you shouldn't hire them. I just don't see why you would go through the trouble of drug testing tellers and loan officers.AZGrizFan wrote:Why do you care who we hire?Grizalltheway wrote: Why do you care what people do in their free time, so long as they're sober and productive at work?
People can do whatever they want in their free time. But if what they're doing isn't "protected", I'm under no obligation to hire them.

This. Testing for weed is juvenile and puritanical.Grizalltheway wrote:I don't, just curious. If someone is dumb enough to tell you they smoke pot in an interview, of course you shouldn't hire them.
