Recreational Marijuana in Texas?

About the last state I'd expect this in. Glad to see it. Maybe they won't mind the Mexicans as much now! Will also "spice up" their Tea Parties!

Bill to legalize recreational marijuana use in Texas clears House committee

"Republican state Rep. David Simpson of Longview argues marijuana comes from God and therefore shouldn’t be banned by government.

The tea party stalwart has repeatedly championed what he calls the “Christian case” for legalization.

If you grew up next to Texas and exposed to the Texas culture I don't think you'd be all that surprised by this. I don't know if it'll make it through this time but would not be at ALL surprised if I see marijuana legalized in Texas during my lifetime.

Texas is a relatively Libertarian state. I think it is one of the more Libertarian states in the Union. In fact on balance I think it's more Libertarian than Washington and Colorado are.

Yeah, that's why when I visited Frisco you had dry counties where hard liquor sales were prohibited and/or sales shut down at 10:00.

But they DID have a church on every corner...literally.

Depends on how you define "keep government out of my face."

Besides its a matrix. Somalia...limited government. Sweden...lots of government, and they seem to like it.

Washington seems to do just fine in the liberty department.

You're comparing Texas to two of the most liberal states in the country to make your point?

Coudn't care less. Won't change our company policy of not allowing it. Pot smokers aren't a protected class.

Why do you care what people do in their free time, so long as they're sober and productive at work?

I was shocked we were able to find a liquor store in Roosevelt a couple of weeks ago. But they probably do pretty good business with all the oil patch workers.

From the job, everyone does.

You get drunk the night before work, your body metabolizes the alcohol out of your system. Piss clean...blood's clean, everything is fine.

You smoke a blunt the night before work, your body doesn't metabolize the THC out of your system. Piss dirty, you're fired...period.

The problem is your employer doesn't know when you smoked last.
It's common sense. If you have an accident at work, insurance won't cover because you're dirty. If you get into an accident in a company vehicle and piss dirty, your company will get it's ass sued off.

Again, do what you want on your free time, but if you fail a random or mandatory drug test, you're gonna be fired. The liability risks are way too high.

Why do you care what people do in their free time, so long as they're sober and productive at work?
Why do you care who we hire?

People can do whatever they want in their free time. But if what they're doing isn't "protected", I'm under no obligation to hire them.

Guess what, it's legal to NOT hire smokers. It's legal to NOT hire drinkers. It's legal to NOT hire pot smokers. NONE of them are a "protected class". Although if nanny state libs had their way I'm sure all THREE would be....

I don't, just curious. If someone is dumb enough to tell you they smoke pot in an interview, of course you shouldn't hire them. I just don't see why you would go through the trouble of drug testing tellers and loan officers.

This. Testing for weed is juvenile and puritanical.
