Washington is not s desert (unless you are in Spokane) but that doesn't count
So they want no interference with the natural flow of waterways and natural collection points

Meh. It's the large water users that are the issue, but there still needs to me more crackdowns on the stupid water use like watering lawns, etc. I don't waste water, or use it on stupid thinkgs like a lawn, but I won't take the drought seriously until there "water monitors" driving around 24/7 issuing fines for water waste. :coffee:
Wouldn't simply jacking up water prices something like 5-10x have the same effect? Most people couldn't afford to water lawns, fill swimming pools & hot tubs, regularly take long showers, etc. Would probably curb water use more and bring in more $$ than an army of water police driving around to fine people possibly could, and you wouldn't have to hire an army of water police, install smart meters, etc..

Sites should be accelerated. Could be completed in three years...AND THERE'S MONEY ALREADY AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE IT!!!

The SWP HAS NO OTHER SURFACE STORAGE PLANS IN DEVELOPMENT!!!!!!

Think about that. State population had doubled in past 40 years...no storage added in past 40 years...and the only storage under development, Sites, is a "buffer" site for heavy rain years.

The mismanagement is incomprehensible, and minimally negligent.

As there are currently conveyance projects completed and planned for moving water from north to south, it would be logical to add more storage in the northern state, up range from Oroville in Plumas, Lassen or farther nort in Siskiyou Counties.
Problem is, Gov. Moonbeam has restricted financially beneficial projects to urban areas (yes, the Crazy Train traverses the Central Valley, but the principal beneficiaries are So Cal/Anaheim and the SF Bay Area), so, until Moonbeam can craft a plan to build storage in the urban areas, he'll never allow additional projects.

And, btw, the Greater Sacramento region has had "water patrols" since the 90's.

So you want to build the 3 BILLION dollar Sites Reservoir - who is paying for it?

And most of the water that would go into Sites is already spoken for, so really doesn't help the situation in years like now.

Meanwhile, Arizona, with good water planning, has seen it's population grow by 6x, yet uses less water than it did in the 1950's

Interesting. Seems like it would take a load off the local water district if people used rain water for gardens and car washing and hot tub filling.

No. Plenty of green lawns in SoCal and water is at least 3x the cost there than it is up north (at least SD compared to Sac). Gotta keep those property values up, can't do that with a brown lawn.

Meaningless unless its round the clock patrolling. Anyone with half a brain can avoid the current patrols, just water your lawn after 6 pm and you can use as much water as you want without repercussion.

This...ironically enough if the farmers water is cut off then so is the labor demand by some of the largest illegal labor employers.

There are 24/7 reporting hotlines.

I just ratted out a hospital running sprinklers at night on a day we had rain.

You know sprinkler systems can be set for use in the middle of the night right? Doubt there are many people wandering around the neighborhood looking for people to rat on at that time.

Again, if this drought was serious we would see some real water restrictions and enforcement. Not this "do what you can" crap and hotline enforcement.

Around here, if the city sees a big spike in your metered usage from month to month they'll pay you a courtesy call. I had it happen once when a neighborhood kid washed my car, didn't turn the water off, and then we left for the weekend which quadrupled our bill.
