You don't need a CWP to carry a weapon openly, you need it to carry one concealed. It's right there in the name. ;)

They aren't allowing any type of operational weapons at the convention, open or concealed.

Yeah, I read that....no firing pins installed. In the first post. :coffee:

There aren't many states that allow open carry for non -LEO's.

Edit: More than I thought, but TN isn't one of them without a permit or license.

I'm not an NRA member and have no plans to become one, but I don't understand how convention-goers following state and federal laws that exist at the venue is hypocrisy.

Belonged to the NRA about 20 years ago, was young and naive, and thinking they were looking out for hunters like me.. Soon tired of their extreme views and politics, and never renewed again.

Still using the tiny Sharade pocket knife they sent me for digging boogers out from under my dick beater nails though.

Licensed carriers will be allowed to carry at the main convention space in the Music City Center. Firearms are prohibited at the nightly concerts across the street at the Bridgesone Arena, which bans firearms and serves alcohol. The Bridgestone Arena will have armed security, so there goes your good guys with guns spiel.

Game, set, match. Next.
Fair enough ^ and agreed,
But you are saying there are absolutely times and places where firearms should be restricted..?
lest we not forget that little gem - as dictated by the NRA

:notworthy:
commandment #1 of gun safety is not carrying when under the influence of alcohol, and the NRA does promote firearms safety, so yeah - i can think of a few instances where it would not be hypocritical for the NRA to limit firearms possession at certain events or venues

dbackjon wrote:6. Security

A multilevel security plan went into works not long after Nashville was chosen as the convention destination. All guns on the convention floor will be nonoperational, with the firing pins removed, and any guns purchased during the NRA convention will have to be picked up at a Federal Firearms License dealer, near where the purchaser lives, and will require a legal identification.

Why are they doing this? Don't they trust their own members? **** hypocrites.
Because you're more likely to be killed by a gun in Tennessee than by a car?

Of course we are. Where there's alcohol or drugs or any place where they're banned by law. Even private establishments where the mebers vote not to allow them.

It's simple really.
Okay,
So this is a slight (but important) change in the NRA stance
I have no issues with that

NRA-backed legislation in Arkansas:

Arkansas' gun-free zones would drastically shrink under a bill to allow concealed weapons at bars, churches, schools, polling locations, local government meetings, the state Capitol and other prohibited places.

Republican Rep. Dan Sullivan of Jonesboro said Tuesday that his omnibus gun bill modifies various sections of state law to expand on places where people with concealed carry licenses can bring their weapons.

The bill would allow K-12 faculty or staff to bring their firearms onto school property but not into classrooms. It would allow firearms at sporting events not hosted by schools or universities. Liquor stores, highway department buildings, and the Arkansas Justice Building where the state Supreme Court meets would no longer be gun-free areas.

"It's an issue of personal freedom and personal rights and allowing law-abiding qualified people to carry in more places," Sullivan said.

NRA backed bill in Georgia...
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a wide-ranging gun bill into law Wednesday that has critics howling and proponents applauding.

House Bill 60, or the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 -- which opponents have nicknamed the "guns everywhere bill" -- specifies where Georgia residents can carry weapons. Included are provisions that allow residents who have concealed carry permits to take guns into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports.

Tennessee:

According to one Tennessee GOP representative, the NRA threatened to withdraw endorsements if legislators voted against the bill allowing residents to carry guns in bars. “This line of reasoning borders on lunacy,” he said, adding, “What line will we not cross for the NRA? At what point do we say that’s too much?”

We have crushed you here, but you refuse to admit your defeat. We've seen this over and over again with you, so it's not a shock really.

Your original point in the thread seemed to be that the NRA was somehow restricting gun rights at its own convention (i.e. not allowing carry where it is normally allowed) and that was disproven.

Now you seem to be making some new point about the NRA backing legislation to encourage the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. It seems that you are saying that the NRA is doing its job. What is your point there? :? Yes, they are doing their job. They promote gun rights.
