What in the world would make you think he doesn't understand..?
He seems to understand perfectly and then proceeds to make an funny and interesting point
Is the irony completely lost on you..?

The irony isn't lost on me- Ive already said it doesn't exist
Please continue - show me how I, someone who has never been a slash and burn advocate for government reduction- am somehow in an amusing position because I believe that certain government functions - my own included - are appropriate.
Thats my point- I think that of ALL the goofy things our government does (and that it should not do) there are some things that it (and not all governments do this and it is a reflection on how those governments view citizenship) should do.
Can my job be streamlined? Hell yes. We have too many ACS officers in some nice-to-live-in countries.... you can probably figure what countries those are,
il mio amico. But if nothing else, when the shit hits the fan in places like Yemen or Cameroon or Liberia, somebody needs to be there to find the Americans and get them on a boat.
You guys might see that as bloat or out of control government bloat (as evidenced in the post I responded to) but I do not. And if someone decides I'm not necessary (as Congress has done twice in the last 5 years by cutting my pay) then I'll move on and do something else where I can serve the public in a way consistent with my view of what government's responsibilities should be. I feel no conflict whatsoever and also reserve the right to point out government waste and incompetence regardless of who my employer is.
