Democrats in doghouse among men, whites, older
Democrats Try Wooing Ones Who Got Away: White Men
"....part of an internal debate at all levels of his party over how hard it should work to win over white men, especially working-class men without college degrees, at a time when Democrats are gaining support from growing numbers of female and minority voters.
It is a challenge that runs throughout the nation’s industrial heartland, in farm states and across the South, after a half-century of economic, demographic and cultural shifts that have reshaped the electorate. Even in places like Michigan, where it has been decades since union membership lists readily predicted Democratic votes, many in the party pay so little attention to white working-class men that it suggests they have effectively given up on converting them......
.....No Democratic presidential candidate has won a majority of white men since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama all prevailed with support of the so-called rising electorate of women, especially single women, and minorities. But fewer of those voters typically participate in midterm elections, making the votes of white men more potent and the struggle of Democrats for 2014 clear.
“Realistically, winning votes from working-class white men has just been a very tough political challenge for Democrats,” said Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster. With demographic trends favoring Democrats nationally and in many states, strategists say it makes sense to concentrate resources on mobilizing women, young people, Hispanics, blacks and other minority voters......
....“You can’t just give Republicans a clear field to play for the votes of white working-class men without putting up some sort of a fight because that just allows them to run the table with these voters, thereby potentially offsetting your burgeoning advantage among minorities, single women, millennials,” said Ruy Teixeira, an analyst at the left-leaning Center for American Progress.
“I just think Democrats are having a hard time figuring out how to effectively pursue it,” he added.
What discourages Democrats is that men’s attitudes shaped over generations — through debates over civil rights, anti-Communism, Vietnam, feminism, gun control and dislocations from lost manufacturing jobs and stagnant wages in a global economy — are not easily altered.....

For Dems, a problem with seniors
Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year.
The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and older by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race.
Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican.
That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing a difficult midterm climate....."

Hmmm. Pursue a shrinking demographic or continue to shore up the growing demographics you control.
Very difficult decision.

The difference, BDMBSQT, is that the Ds are trying to get back some of that demographic whereas the Rs have given up on every other demographic except that one.

Re: Democrats in doghouse among men, whites, older
And that's why if you're White you're making a mistake in voting for Democrats in races related to who controls the national government. Democrats are not going to be fostering your interests. And it's not just that they "control" the other racial groups. As I wrote in another thread they must OVERWHELMINGLY control them in order to remain competitive. Obama beat Romney by 81% - 18% among Non Whites in 2012 and won the popular vote by 5 percentage points. If their support nationally among non Whites dropped to around what the Republicans' support among Whites, who voted by 59% to 39% for Romney, they would be devastated. They would not be nationally competitive.Skjellyfetti wrote:Hmmm. Pursue a shrinking demographic or continue to shore up the growing demographics you control.

And they know it. So they are not going to hesitate to unfairly advance the interests of Non Whites over the interests of Whites. They also are not going to hesitate to gin up racial animus in order to ramp up Non White turnout. That sort of thing.

Re: Democrats in doghouse among men, whites, older
There's that thing again of acting as though it's just White men. White women voted majority for McCain in 2008 and for Romney in 2012. In 2012 they voted for Romney by 56% to 42%. That's not far off the overall Romney White vote advantage of 59% to 39%. Whites among every age group also voted majority for Romney.....part of an internal debate at all levels of his party over how hard it should work to win over white men,
They have not "won over" Whites at all. It's just that they get enough Whites who are foolish enough to vote for them to combine that with the overwhelming majority of Non Whites, who they are pandering to, and get over the top.
It's like there's this narrative spin about how Women and Young people vote Democrat. The truth is that Non White Women and Non White young people vote Democrat while White Women and White young people vote Republican. And it's no different among Men. White men vote Republican and non White men vote Democrat. I think somebody must think it's cool to say that Women and Young people vote Democrat as though it adds some kind of "cred" to the Democrats. But they should call it as it really is: It's a racial thing. Whites vote Republican and Non Whites vote Democrat.

I dont want EITHER party to "look out for me"
I want them to make sure we arent going to get overrun by Russia, China, The Vatican or Luxembourg. I want them to make sure the buses run on time, fix the fvcking roads at night get the hell out of the way of processes that regulate themselves and then SHUT THE FVCK UP
I dont need any of those fvcking nrainless junket monkeys looking out for me. My life expectancy will be longer and my blood pressure lower if they JUST DONT
the rest of you can have congress wipe your asses fir you if you like but dont bitch when they fvck it up and you get assburn

The left wants to set up an overarching federal government that has complete control over social issues and public welfare.
The right wants to set up an overarching federal government that has complete control over moral issues and religion.
I also want them to STFU and get the hell out of the way.
