H1Bs and H2Bs never needed reform. There have always been protections built into the INA for employment based non immigrant visas. The problem, as with many other venues where the Federal government must actually provide oversight of its own rules, is that there were never enough resources set aside for enforcement.

It is a choice. You support people living a soft life on everyone else's backs. We have kids practicing and playing football and basketball all day in the heat...yet you say they can't last picking plants in a field? 150-200 years ago most people had to grow and hunt for their own food...they had to do manual labor due to a lack of electricity, they had to walk to work/to get water/to do anything.
I've worked a farm during the summer...and my grandfather did it for about 90 years...he painted the roof of his barn when he was in his 90s. Farm work is nothing that can't be learned...and learned quickly...so there is nothing to your theory about Mexican people having experience doing that type of work that relates to anyone in Detroit not being able to do it.
People in America today are certainly capable of doing farm work...you are simply giving them an excuse to not do hard work.

Of course, dal & Co. would NEVER consent to working as farm labor in order to earn their food and shelter...it would be deemed racially insensitive to put black people back into the fields. Far better to let them rot in the urban jungle while complaining that they aren't given enough of a chance.

Take all that stuff away and if the choice is either work the fields or be homeless & starving, some will beg on a corner. Some will turn tricks. Some will turn to crime. And some will work the fields, the lawns, the hotels, the kitchens, the construction, the processors...(like many, but not enough, Americans currently do).

People settle for the level of comfort they want. If the Feds hand out a roof and some scrap money for food, then that is what some folks will accept as a trade off versus hard work. Take away the support, and you'll see some folks turn to work, while others will ingeniously (to use Chizz's word) figure out another way of making a living that satisfies them to a level they will accept.

Funny how you tried to lump working in the field with those other menial jobs. Those other jobs are cush compared to field work, hence why no one will “stoop that low” and work the fields. Agribusiness will always need immigrant labor to work the fields. Always. And neither side wants that to change.BDKJMU wrote:FIFY.SDHornet wrote: This. Given a choice between starving and working, most people would choose to work. You are simply too ingrained into our soft safety net for the poor (and lazy) that you refuse to see that people are CHOOSING to not work simply due to policy decisions that allow them a soft choice.

Yeah that ain’t happenin’. Those people will put a brick through a government building window long before they ever head to the fields for work. You’re tellin’ me people will go from waking up at noon and hangin’ around the hood all day to working from dawn to dusk doing back breaking labor for a couple bucks an hour?Cluck U wrote:People worked fields for centuries...and will continue to work fields for a long time going forward. BTW you seem to think I am advocating for the continuation of entitlement programs, which I am not. I'm saying you can completely eliminate them all together and people WILL NOT head to the fields for work.

You keep repeating this as if it's a fact.
The top 1% in Mexico is less wealthy than the top 1% in the US... but, they're VERY well off.
