Don't most military retirees (maybe excluding generals, admirals, etc) go on to have other careers after they leave? I'm thinking most other governments workers are closer to official retirement age when they leave and depend more on their pensions.
That's pretty funny. So, if a person sacrifices 20+ years of their life, delaying their "other career" and affecting their ability to move up the corporate ladder, they don't need that extra $$ in their military pension at the end?

You know, the best decision I EVER made to maximize my earning potential was resign my commission and start my civilian career at age 32 instead of putting in another 10 years of active service and collecting that big fat  retirement check. A civilian career, mind you, that began as a TEMP working for Bank of America making $8 / hour.

Because I chose to do only 11 years active service and completed my time by doing 11 years in the reserves I have to wait until I'm 60 to collect any military pension that may or may not be there--hell, in 10 years this COUNTRY may or may not be here.

So it takes "balls" to join the military? I thought it took desperation from not having any other prospects for a productive life. Hence the plethora of shithead vets filling our homeless shelters and lobbying loudly for taxpayer handouts.

They fill our homeless shelters because our country refuses to take care of those we send into harms way. That's been proven over and over. From Korea to Benghazi.

I've never seen so many people bitch and complain before. This is one part of the Budget. Let me repeat that word...BUDGET! 5 years into his administration and Obama gets to finally sign a budget. We have a BUDGET! No more CRs for a while. We have a mother effing budget.

Well hold on. When Gov. Walker went after the teacher's unions in WI & Chris Christie did the same in NJ it was a move heralded by conservatives & the Tea Party. Isn't this the same thing?? :suspicious: If you straddle the fence too long your balls tend to get soft.

I have gone on record multiple times on this board stating the need to cut gov't--in all areas, including defense. But when they impact ONLY defense, and specifically those that actually did the fighting, I call complete bullshit. Especially when there are countless OTHER "wasteful" spending areas they could focus on to save the same pathetic amount of money--like IRS tax credits to illegal aliens.

I've also answered your specific hypothetical pretty clearly: Why START with those who fought, vs those who push paper? Doesn't that seem rather odd to you? Or is it just another manifestation of the donk's outright hatred of the military? Just seems like an obvious and unneccessary slap in the face to veterans.

That's not an answer, that's asking questions. What is clear is that had they left the military alone and only cut other federal employees' COLA, you be hailing it as a sensible reduction in waste/spending.

I agreed that it was odd to only do this to the military and not all federal employees' pensions. It's politics as usual, but I couldn't help but to give you shit.

Yes we could. I suggest you rally the troops and get your Congressmen to listen. However, we have a budget. The Great and All Powerful Obama and Democrats have not been able to pass a budget in 5 years.

Well I did take a look at the old mans situation and cleaned up a few of the details... he was a full bird for 8 years and retired in 1983 (he's 76 yrs)... and true his pension is actually $6,200 (not $7,200)
