Yes...although they have a couple of good/decent wins to their credit this year....

EIU played well through a very solid OOC. They deserve to be top 5

The difference with EIU (at least this year) is that they had a tough OOC schedule:

Beat San Diego State 40-19 - San Diego State is now 3-1 in the Mountain West
Beat Southern Illinois on the road
Beat Illinois State badly
Lost to a top 20 FBS Northern Illinois by 4
The closest any OVC team has been to them is to lose by 18

I didn't mean to single out EIU specifically, as their resume is probably the best of any FCS team in the top 25, but an OVC team in general..

Agreed....but Charleston Southern is a paper tiger, as is Coastal.

Part of Chuck's ranking is based on the fact they beat two teams that were strong last year, and expected to be good this year (The Citadel and App State) - and it turns out neither are really that good.

This. I don't see CCU or CSU as top 10 teams.

CSU isn't but that doesn't discount their success. Face it, your team sucks this season. That's the excuse right? Your team is having an off season?

Not bad but I'd have Southeastern Louisiana rated ahead of Sam Houston State at this point.

Not that I don't hope both Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State beat Southeastern Louisiana in the Lions' next two games. But to me Southeastern Louisiana looked a whole lot better against McNeese than either of those two teams did.

Don't get me wrong. I think McNeese laid an egg against Southeastern Louisiana and played very poorly. But Southeastern Louisiana still looked like the best team McNeese has played this year.

Hope that a few weeks from now that turns out to be a false impression. But right now that's the impression.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

That is a slippery slope. With their conferences being almost complete playoff failures it is always hard to believe a B-C, Charleston So, Costal Carolina, Fordham, or even E. Illinois is for real.

Yet anyone who has gone undefeated, or has just a single loss, at this point in the season deserves some respect. I'm not saying they must be considered top ten, or top five. Though the above teams did what they needed to do (win baby win) and consequently have earned a spot. As a result they deserve a chance to prove they belong in the playoff mix. Perhaps this year, or another, one of these sleepers is going to win out and shock us all.

Nope. Life is too short. You mad that ASUs last season in the FCS is embarrassing? Are the seeds of doubt germinating? Can ASU even hang with the Sunbelt?

That's what spots 18-25 are for. Undefeated teams in historically weak conferences. IVY, SWAC, NEC, PFL, Big South. Hell, even the Patriot League has produced a playoff victory on about the same cycle as Haley's Comet...

Coastal has shown the ability the reach the playoffs in multiple years. I think we're seeing the beginning of something great and eventually, you all that look down on some Big South teams like Coastal, Chas. So. and Liberty will soon have to admit that they have the ability to compete. This is only going to improve. The "loss" of VMI to the SoCon does more good to us than it will to the SoCon. I'm not a complete homer, I know our success this year in the polls is due to the ineligibility and failures of others. Since the begining, Coastal has been an exception in the Big South football scene.

Meanwhile, I just read this article. I like our chances but some people get too excited
CCU also appears to be on the path to a national title. Ranked No. 3/5 after into Saturday’s win against Charlotte, the Chants (9-0) are one of three undefeated teams in the FCS.
http://www.myhorrynews.com/sports/colle ... f6878.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's the truth, and what i've been saying all along
In actuality, the Charleston Southern game is probably truest test for the Chanticleers, who’ve not faced a ranked team since defeating then No. 25 ranked Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 14. Gardner-Webb had already fallen out of the rankings when CCU beat the Runnin’ Bulldogs 42-7 on Oct. 12.

Your playoff record is 1-3. That one win is against another of the historically weak autobid conference teams (Bethune Cookman).

And I lol'ed at the "national title" comments in that article.

That NT comment was ridiculous. We've been in the playoffs 3 of our 10 seasons. Historically weak but good enough to get into the playoffs for a chance. You can't discredit that.

2006 Lost to AppState(who went on to win) 45-28

That's about how we played them this year. Toledo is solid and will probably be going to their 4th bowl in a row.

You guys are definitely on the upswing, but considering your SOS should really be regarded as a typical 2-4 loss team from a power conference when it comes to ranking and seeding.

That's what the playoffs are for. It's nice that we don't have to speculate how a team from an historically lower conference will do against top competition. That said, it's up to CCU to make it happen. If they lose first round again, you will have to admit that it's not there yet and may not be for a long time.
