Nope, Klean is on my "admit to the compound" list, and he'll know the difference.

The number not participating is going to continue to spike as the baby boomers continue to retire. Once the median of the boomers hits retirement, the participation rate will start to go back up again.

The winters up there can be brutal but since its right on the water its not as bad as a few miles inland near Kalkaska and Mancelona. Those places get hit hard every year.

About the size of Newark...without the college population. Lots of water up there (frozen a good part of the year  ) and it looks as though you'll be getting some snow on that side of the lake, so get yourself a good snow blower and some fishing equipment (normal stuff during the summer, chain saws, a portable shed, and parkas during the winter season).

My in-laws have a place due North, across the lake, near Engadine. If you love open country, you're going to have a blast. Be prepared to see a LOT of stars...it is a different world away from the megalopolises of the East and West coasts. :thumb:

When are you moving?
Oh its beautiful up there summer and winter. I've been up there the last three winters for my daughter's bday (she lives in MI) was able to go up there in the summer season for the first time and it was amazing. I told my gf (who lives up there) that it had everything I loved about Miami without the requirement of learning Spanish fluently

Aiming for early February, just before spring hits and the tourist season begins. It's a process but I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

Boomers. What a worthless demographic. Almost as bad as this trainwreck that currently slinking out of college after 8 years of gender studies.

That's assuming that their kids, the Baby Boom Echo, who are the 15-30 year olds now, starting getting employed more than they have. The unemployment rate of the youth is particularly troubling as they aren't working and in some cases, seem okay with that.

Well I think part of that has do with the fact that a lot of us, myself included, graduated into the worst job market since the Great Depression. I've been fairly lucky to find the work I have, but there are still far more college grads nowadays than there are college graduate jobs.

The employable and accumulators of capital have not been holding their end of the deal since the 50's and they all are going to pay dearly.

Helluva world you created for your children - war, environmental destruction, famine, disease.... Chances are your kids, definately your grandkids, will suffer in a world gone mad. All your fault too.
Again, the hippies were right. :coffee:
Yeah, but the unemployable don't understand the basic engineering concepts of building a defensible bunker, the geometric concepts of fields of fire, or the logistical concepts of crop rotation and planning.
Bullshit. Hippies know about not just rotation and planning but how to farm without using deadly chemicals or greedily ruining soil conditions:

Yesterday just reinforced my beliefs that are unemployment rate is the opposite of what many of the sheep think - it's exaggerated. If anything we have an unemployable rate problem.

I phone screen a guy last week, call him & e-mail him Monday for a Wednesday interview which he replies to both confirming. The morning of the interview he goes on LinkedIn and follows our company. Then he no-calls, no-shows the interview.

Good luck.

There just are too many people out there that aren't qualified or motivated to work most of the available jobs in this country today.

If that's the case, no more whining by the companies, they need to provide their own training. Otherwise, as I have witnessed in the giant organizations I've worked for, they'll put a gun to the head of state governments to pay for their training, thus threatening the state that they will be leaving.

Worked for a 5 billion/yr food company which did just that in a southwestern state. Built a new plant, then, despite ungodly earnings, had the balls to ask the state to pay for training its new employees. This, after the state had spent $1 million for several job fairs to staff the place. They threatened to pull up stakes and leave if they did not get it, too. It's corporate welfare...for the wealthy!

You want good employees to learn your company's skills, train them yourself!

Our chamber of commerce (businesses) was on this years ago and led the multimillion dollar effort to add a 4 year engineering program to our local small university to feed the need for engineers.

On the flip side, tax payers have and are funding several programs at the technical college to produce high technical skill workers.

Win win.
