Good deal. See you on Saturday.

Yes, I was there last Saturday. My dad and I tailgated from 3-6. I couldn't believe the rain held off that long. I did not see your little whirlie-bird thing you usually have at the top of your flags or I would have stopped by.

We did not enter the stadium due to an unfortunate incident I had right before we were about to go in. I am not at liberty to discuss it.

Birdsong has thrown 6 picks. Now 2 of those picks came last week in that downpour vs UNCC. Dae'Quan Scott also had 2 fumbles, but one was when he was in the wildcat and was a bad snap. Last weeks 5 turnovers were bad, but playing with wet balls was clearly an issue.

JMU has installed a new up tempo offense, as I see UD has. And this isn't your typical Mickey offense. JMU avg about 29 passes a game. Actually, the up tempo offense combined with the turnovers has actually hurt JMU's defensive #s some, as I suspect is the case with UD.
Mr. Madden, isn't a key to any game not turning over the ball? :coffee:

The only way JMU will beat Delaware is by scoring more. That's a fact you can bank on. :thumb:

Yep.

Key to the game when UD has the ball will be pressure on Hurley. JMU is pretty stout against the run. Unless UD busts a long run (Akron did and StFU did on a trick play) JMU will likely hold Pierce & UD's running game in check. Where UD can and likely will do damage is through the air. JMU has compiled 14 sacks in the last 3 games. New DL coach is from UVA. JMU doesn't get pressure on Hurley then he could throw for 300+. JMU's achilles heel on defense is the corners. Both starters are rFr. That includes Taylor Reynolds from Newark.

One thing that hurts JMU and helps UD is 2nd quarter on Sat vs UNCC JMU lost Sage Harold, starting DE a probably best pass rusher to high ankle sprain. Reportedly out for 2-6 weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if was longer. JMU will now be 6 deep on the DL: 3 DTs and 3 DEs.
UD had a big problem last season in CAA games of protecting the QB. It has seemed to be much better so far this season so we'll see come Saturday night how they fare. UD's line is experienced, they had 4 returning starters this year. But when pressure gets to Hurley his chances of making a poor decision increase big time. If JMU gets no pressure it could be a long night for JMU. Opponents have done what you've outlined - stack the box & try to stop run 1st & UD has successfully passed to open the run. Michael Johnson may be the best WR in the CAA - he should be & would be in the SEC if he doesn't hurt his knee in HS, he's been dominant so far. Nick Boyle (TE) and Rob Jones (WR) have been very effective as well.

UD also runs an Oregon style offensive attack now - Keeler used to preach it, but Brock actually runs one. The play clock will rarely get under 20 seconds. They no huddle & snap quickly - if JMU's thin on the DL I'd expect to see a lot of that offensive style then.

UD has a big & deep DL that does OK against the run but generates not a ton of pass rush. Kerr & Wallschleger are the best DL we have. LB's we're thin but the group is OK. DB is our most suspect position - I'm not sure I'd be worried about JMU throwing in obvious passing situations but I could see them hurting us on play action on 1st & 2nd downs - Navy made us look bad on those kind of plays.

Special teams sound like a draw - both Kickers sound very similar.
JMU is also running the up tempo with new OC Mike O'Cain. If the name sounds familiar, that's because he has been OC at UNC and Clempson, head coach at NC State for 7 years, and OC at VA Tech:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_O%27Cain" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

JMU has run 325 plays in 4 games- avg of 81 plays a game. Its not Oregon up tempo, but it is up tempo.

Already mentioned JMU's DL and inexperience at the corners. Anyone who follows the CAA knows about the 2 All American studs in Roberstson at MLB and Marlowe at FS.

Robertson, #27, in 2010 was CAA rookie defensive POY/3rd team All CAA, and was 1st team All CAA each of the last 2 seasons, along with being the CAA defensive POY of the year and an All American last season. Buchanon candidate this season. Don't know if he'll make it at the next level with his size-listed 5'11"/230.

Marlowe, #16, in 2011 was CAA rookie defensive POY/3rd team All CAA and 1st team All CAA last season. Preseason All American this season. Big safety at 6'2"/205.

Given the coaching change at UD and the fact we haven't faced each other in so long, I'm afraid I know very little about UD. But, given JMU's performance so far, and their tendency to turn the ball over and give up big plays (particularly in the air), I'm not feeling confident about this one for the Dukes.

We played poorly against our cupcakes, but still won. Any CAA team would have punched us in the neck with those performances.

If you're 21 you're good to go. No solo cup necessary. Most police attention is focused on the ice arena lot and anyone who looks college aged there. The ice arena lot gets out of hand frequently. The YouTube videos of fat lesbians making out on cars with beer bottles and cans flying through the air and other such tomfoolery were generally filmed in the ice arena lot. The cops focus their patrols there and if you're under 21 and drinking obviously, you have a good chance of getting a citation.

Otherwise, it's a laid back party everywhere else. For anyone doing general parking, I recommend the park and ride or boy scout lots at the SE corner of the Rt-4/S. College intersection. But really, park wherever you think is best. It's not a difficult place to get into or out of for the most part.
Is it really true tailgate lots only open 4 hours before kickoff (3 PM)? Is there anywhere you could park at & start your tailgate say 5-6 hrs before kickoff?

JMU lots open at 0800, even with 6 PM games, which included the last 3.

Four hours is the policy. You can park at the park and ride whenever. Again, SE corner of 4 and S. College.

Yes it's true the lots won't open till 3. If you want to start an "early tailgate" you'd have to hit a bar on Main St, which would open maybe at 11.

Ha! I was planning on heading to the Ice Rink lot, which now sounds like a poor choice...thinking now about the grass lot, since the weather looks to be perfect.

The party zone I speak of is between the rink and S. College (896). You'll be fine behind (east of) the rink.

Well, that sucks. Usually for a full tailgate I want to be parked a minimum of 4 1/2 hrs before the game.

1/2 hr for set up:
-portable L shaped bar with umbrella & 4 bar folding bar stools.
-32 inch LED TV using deep cycle marine battery, power inverter, over the air digital antenna with booster.
-20 foot telescoping flag pole
-Whichever of my 3 grills I bring
-folding table

-3 hrs for tailgate

-1/2 hr for cleaning and packing everything up

-1/2 hr (give or take depending how close am parked) for a last drink, getting to stadium, bathroom on way, getting to seats.

That = 4 1/2 hrs. My avg tailgate for a night game with decent weather is getting to lot around 6 hrs before game. I know tailgating isn't as big in the northeast, but opening lots only 4 hrs before kickoff is small time lame..

Big ?? is will Mickey let Big Red run? The thing is he's 6'4"/230, and he can run. Probably a better runner now than he is a passer. Alot like Chris Whitney from Villanova, but an inch taler, 10 lbs heavier, and with a bigger arm. Problem is when he gets into the open field he thinks he is a fullback. Hard nosed kid that wants to try to run people over.

In the opener vs CCSU there was some called running plays for him, and he took off on a couple of scrambles. Mickey later said he cringed whenever he ran, because JMU's backup QB is a walkon true Fr. # of circumstances that led to that. Halftime of CCSU JMU told Birdsong not to run at all, period. Just go out of bounds or throw it away. Were a # of times in the 2nd half he had wide open lanes and he just threw it out of bounds or ran out of bounds.

Akron game the shackles were off and JMU had their best offensive game of the season putting up 498 yds offense against Akron. Sure put up 500 some yds vs UNCC, but Akron is a lot better than UNCC. But Birdsong also got beat up. Believe he dislocated his shoulder and had a foot injury: was in a boot for several days and didn't practice the following week before StFU. Played against StFU, and he had a bad game.

Were no called running plays for Birdsong vs StFU and UNCC, only a few scarambles. Will be interesting to see if there are any versus UD. That would increase Birdsong's chance of injury, and like I said, JMU's backup is a true Fr walkon. Basically if Birdsong goes down for a good chunk of the season or more JMU's season is done as far as making the playoffs, and Mickey probably gets canned.

Well you can tell that story to the guys at the gates on Saturday. Yes, they literally have the lots blocked off until 4 hours before kickoff until they let people in. If you're parking behind the baseball field or behind the ice arena you want to allocate that full 30 minutes to walking to the stadium, going through the queue to get in & then taking a leak before kickoff.

Postgame the lots are open 2 hours , they normally kick people out of the single game lots first.

I thought I was the old man. Cripes, how slow do you walk? I often get to the lots 8 minutes before kickoff and am in my seat before the teams take the field.

I thought I was the old man. Cripes, how slow do you walk? I often get to the lots 8 minutes before kickoff and am in my seat before the teams take the field.
I park in the Gold Lot thanks for asking. Ain't gonna see me schlepping it from those fields. Now I'm getting feedback from "fans" that don't even goto games...... :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Would almost be like reading posts about the team from somebody who didn't even play in college.

Maybe. I recorded & watched the DSU @ UD game, and he looks like a physical specimen. UD roster lists him at 6'2"/210. He looked bigger than that on TV.

Tre McBride for W&M might be the best WR in the CAA. Had a field day against JMU last season. Not just JMU. Saw the W&M @ WVU game, and he looked like the best WR on the field. Huge 1st half against the Mountaineers. 6'0"/200. A leaper, strong, good hands.

JMU has got a big receiver, Daniel Brown, a rJr, #10. 6'5"/220. Long way from when he came to JMU as a skinny 190 lb Fr. As an rSo last season went down for the season vs WVU in game 3. JMU's leading receiver with 13 receptions for 208 yds & a TD. Gonna present a matchup problem for anyone with short corners.
