Shoulda, woulda, coulda - unfortunately I have to deal with the realities of balancing the need for recruiting qualified employees, a price that customers will pay, and dc's unquenchable thirst to drop 300-3000 page mandates onto me in order to "fix" an issue affecting/caused by 5-10% of the population.

The exchanges have been officially punted for year. The California coverage floating in the media has a $5000 deductible before coverage kicks in, for more than we currently pay with Kaiser (currently effective $1000 deductible).

Problem is that no one can tell me what the insurance costs will be next year. Taxes going up, regulation going up, and a big unknown for medical insurance does not make it very excited about hiring that next person. I, like many of my compatriots are looking at automation, outsourcing, etc.

Health insurance should not be for profit and should not be the responsibility of business owners.
The non-profit insurance companies aren't any better than the for profit.....

They are in the rest of the industrialized world. At least at saving costs while providing comparable basic care with at least the same if not better outcomes. By contrast, Bill McGuire of United Healthcare made a $1 billion in his decade with the company. :coffee:

I should specify that I am referring to Wellmark/Blue Cross of Iowa which is a non-profit insurer. Their CEO's salary is about $2.6 million. The board gave him a $2.3 million bonus last year, up from $700,000 the year before. They also gave him the bonus before the end of the year last year so he wouldn't get hit with the higher tax rates. They bought a jet so he wouldn't have to fly commercial or travel by car when he visits cities around Iowa. They built a new multimillion dollar HQ in Des Moines. All while asking for 10-13% rate increases every year.

That's not a not for profit enterprise. You need to make money to pay overhead, but that is an outright scam.
