John, first you have to look at the time the bible was first spoken. At that time, yo had several small communites. The first thing was to get married and have children. at the end of the day, Two gay people can't make baby......PERIOD. How is the community going to survive? That may sound so simple minded now, but in 2000 B.C., they took that very serious. To back that up, look at communites that have small population at that time, and they two were against the gay life style. The bigger the city, the more homosexuality you saw, Rome, Athens. But now in 2013, I could give a damn if two men wat to get married. I dont care. In fact, gay men make great neighbors. I used to live next to two gay men and they were so of the best people I knew.
I don't know about the homosexual lifestyle stuff in general but I agree with the "make a baby" thing being key to the existence of the institution of marriage. That, I think, is why it exists. Whether it was marriage involving one man and one woman or marriage involving one man having multiple wives. The reason, I think, the concept evolved is that it provided a stable environment in which children were produced and nurtured biologically. And that fact is not altered by the fact that it's possible for males and females to get married under circumstances in which there is no chance that they will have children.
I think it's absolutely absurd to be even talking about "marriage" encompassing two members of the same sex. But that in itself isn't my issue with homosexuality.
My issue is more "global." To me it's a classic example of egalitarianism corrupting rational thought starting with the process that led the American Psychiatric Association removing homosexuality from its
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. A body of practitioners of science...or pseudo science...cast objectivity aside in order to promote egaltiarianism. They declared that people who are obviously sick are not sick.
And it went from there. Then we went into decades of indoctrination of young people in schools and such. There was no defense because the experts had spoken. Never mind that the objectivity of the experts had been compromised by their philosophical orientation.
If people believe "the experts" when it comes to homosexuality...if they believe that having a preference for members of your own sex is not disfunctional because "the experts say so"...they will believe anything. They have cast their own critical thinking ability away. As I've said before, it reminds me of the story of
The Emperor's New Clothes. People have been told what the "enlightened" view is. So they have adopted it. Never mind that it is obviously a crock.
