Obamacare is another government boondoggle.

I know this question is very sophomoric, but when EXACTLY has a government run program benefited America?

Obamacare is bullshit, and Obama is a complete amateur.
Social Security, Medicare, DoD, USPS, the list goes on and on.
Yeah, I didn't notice the part where I asked for a program that benefited America, I should have asked when has a government run program been run efficiently. Aren't three of those programs you listed on the brink of unsustainability?

Easy fixes if we just do it. Republicans don't want to fix them, though, they want to destroy them.

Due to conk legislation requiring them to currently fund benefits for workers who havnt even been born. Though I'm guessing by that time much of what they currently do will have gone the way of the typewriter.
So the only or major reason the USPS is losing money is due to congressional shenanigans? You really believe that? You don't think e-mail and the advance of time have had much of an impact versus legislation?

I won't hold my breath for the Dems to even put forth a plan to fix any of them either so I don't know what your point is. I don't think anyone wants to wait for Obama to come up with one after his budget was killed in the senate on a 99-0 vote. :ohno:

No,the ps certainly needs reform and probably to be downsized as technology has passes it by. That's what I was alluding to in my second sentence. But their current predicament wouldn't be nearly as bad without the...as you call it..."shenanigans".
We believe the Postal Service in the short term should be released from an onerous and unprecedented burden to pre-fund 75 years of future retiree health benefits over a 10-year period. With $44 billion now in the fund, the Postal Service inspector general has said that program is already stronger than any other equivalent government or private-sector fund in the country. There already is more than enough in the account to meet all obligations to retirees.
The Postal Service should also be allowed to recover more than $13 billion in overpayments it has made to its pension plans.
With these changes alone, the Postal Service would be back in the black and posting profits. Though these accounting changes won’t solve the Postal Service’s long-term financial problems, they would provide a few years to turn the Postal Service business model around.
In the long term, our plan would maintain delivery standards for first-class mail and preserve Saturday deliveries. If we don’t do that, if mail delivery becomes inconvenient and slow, many of its most loyal customers — from home delivery medication companies to newspaper publishers — will turn to private-mailing options.

Pretty interesting fact from the Social Security Admin:

50 years ago only 6% of households were on welfare.....today 35% or over 100 million people.

In 2001, there were 5 million people on disability....now there are 9 million.

Wow, over 1/3 of Americans are on welfare....

Plenty of you guys on here are libs....What is the answer to lower this?

That must be wrong....now way 1/3 of Americans are on welfare...unless they are counting food stamps, Medicare and other programs.... I'm trying to find it.

50 years ago people were better paid, for one thing. Union membership was much higher, too.

And if this includes Medicare, as others have wondered, it didn't exist 50 years ago.

Sure its easy...just tap into everyone else's money.

During my college years, I spent some time working at the local regional mail center as a "temporary". Holy crap, what a waste of money that place was! And it was a cesspool of lazy, union workers who did everything they could to get out of any actual work. The place could have been run with 1/3 the staff (and easily was...for one day, a very busy day, when a lot of the regulars went out "sick" in protest). We got the mail out 3 hours earlier than the regulars...no overtime, no broken or jammed sorting machines (the regulars purposefully jammed those machines several times each and every night night in order to stop and slow down the processing...which resulted in overtime), no spilled bags of second class mail, no, "Oh, we found another 27 sacks of mail!" at the last minute issues.

Needless to say, the next day the sloths were back to work and they were pissed that the temps and a handful of hard working regulars made them look like fools. They threatened several of us...of course, that went nowhere.

Screw those lazy Democratic voting bums. :kisswink:

Oh, and Tod, if doctors can't see as many patients, people will die. :thumb:

No lie, Tod...I don't lie. Don't need to. :thumb:

See, reality is what it is...there is no reason to lie. If you screw up, man up and take responsibility, learn, and move forward with the new knowledge. Of course, I can see where lying would be a regular option for you....nothing is your fault, so you can just make things up...some sort of revenge on fate...to change your "reality". Travis was good at that. :kisswink:

You, of course, have already proven that you will lie in order to try to make a point, saying your mother died when you were three...and you thought you made a point.

I did make the point, and immediately told you I lied in order to make it.

You don't know me.

You obviously think I have a shitty life based solely on one thing I said that happened years ago. Rest easy, Cluck, my life isn't perfect, but:

I've been married to the same wonderful woman for more than 27 years.

I'm retired Air Force.

Just (about) finished my degree at UM.

My wife didn't finish high school, but now has multiple degrees, including a Master's.

Three of my four kids are students at UM.

We all live in Missoula, including my six grandsons and two sons-in-law. We're together!

I have Griz season tickets.

Life's not perfect, but my "Christmas letter" version ain't too shabby.

Tod wrote:50 years ago people were better paid, for one thing. Union membership was much higher, too.

And if this includes Medicare, as others have wondered, it didn't exist 50 years ago.

So union membership is the 'way' to go for workers?

I've had union guys show up at my business looking for work and I would never hire one of them. Besides not qualifying for the physical demands of my job, they wanted all kinds of benefits and 'perks'. I thought.....wow, this is my business and you are telling me what I should do?....interesting. A good wage, pension and bonus at the end of the year was not good enough... :ohno: It is hard enough to try and find any kind of help. People do not want to work.

You probably want to know what I do where I cannot find 'good' help.....beekeeping. Tough, hard, physically demanding job that keeps me young.... :thumb: , but is extremely difficult to find workers. I bring in foreign workers (beekeepers) to help. They bust their ass and work hard. I would gladly give any local guy a chance but they either think it is too much work or think they deserve the 'moon' right away. Plus before I bring them into the US, I have to advertise the positions in regional newspapers for 'Americans' to have a chance to fill the jobs......requirement of the H2A program. In the 13 years I have bringing in these guys and advertising it in newspapers and job service, I've had probably 4-5 people come up and inquire about the jobs. They have either said it is too much work or I have said they will not make it because of the physical nature of the job.

You sound like a 'pro-union' guy. You live in MT and probably don't know about 'happenings' here in NW MN but we have a local lockout here in the Ag industry....American Crystal Sugar. Story is too long and you can google it but the union will not accept the company paying 83% of their health insurance and they do not like the fact that the company wants to fire bad employees even if they have 'seniority'. I would love to have someone pay my health insurance premiums or a large % of it. And to me, it makes no sense why a business cannot fire a 'bad' employee even if they have union seniority.

My point is that unions are not the 'end all be all' for workers IMO.

Another tid-bit for you Tod.

A truck driver that hauls my bees to California for almond pollination says he hates going to union docks to load for back-loads to ND or MN. According to him, when he goes to get loaded at a union dock, he has to wait 2-3 X longer because a guy pushing a broom cannot put that down and go over to a forklift or pallet jack and load the truck. He has to call someone else because it is not "his" job. 6-7 guys standing around and none of them can load the truck. He goes to a non-union dock and get loaded right away.

Now I suppose this is a lie in your view. Believe it or don't.

Unions have a purpose, but some have spun out of control. Same situation with the street crews in St Paul. 1 guy works, 5 guys stand around waiting for their turn for their specific duty. Same crew on the street for 8 days. My Sister-in-law works for the city and one Brother-in-law works for the power company, one at an oil refinery and another as an electrican. Lot of crazy union stories at family get-togethers.

Tod, the ONLY point you made was that you proved you will lie in order to try to get people to see your warped view of the world. Congrats...you proved you're a tit sucking scumbag. :thumb:

Your list is fluff...and it doesn't matter if any of that stuff is true or not. But you don't see that.

It doesn't matter what excuses you, or anyone else, come up with to explain your expectation that other people should give your daughter more of other people's money in order to deal with her mistake. Welfare isn't broken because it doesn't give enough money or has, in your mind, bad cut-off levels for income restrictions. Welfare is broken because of people like you who expect it to be all peachy and perfect for losers. Where's the cut off, Tod...a new car, a modern house that has all utilities paid, private school tuition for the bastard child until mommy gets her PhD? :dunce:

It is a bottom safety net, designed to pay a minimum. That's it. If you think she needed more money, than YOU should have provided her with more of YOUR money instead of insisting that she get more of OTHER PEOPLE's money.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, so we know where she got her low expectations.
