1) There are books and desk top calenders of "Bushisms". Verbal gaffes didn't cause Bush the election.
2) Kerry didn't have a record as President to focus on.
If you want to convince people that Obama shouldn't be President, talk about what he's done over the last 3.5 years.

2) Even if those costs weren't passed down, very few if any small businesses could afford to build and maintain the infrastructure and emergency services on their own.
At it's core, this is a we versus me argument and the silly part is it doesn't have to be one or the other. We can have outstanding personal achievement within a framework of helping each other out. But I get your point and totally agree with the rest of your post.

sure. Just like everyone else. But most of the streets in my town are maintained with local funding. The street my business is on is a local city street, not paid for with federal dollars. Again, it's a chicken and egg argument. I have benefitted from several government programs like low interest loans for grad school (I received a merit scholarship that paid for undergrad, but I didn't earn that, that was someone else studying his ass off to get that scholarship). But I repaid that debt in the taxes I paid last year alone, so I've been a vey good investment for the federal govt. And will continue to pay off for a long time. But I believe that the govnment exists to serve me and make the world safe for me to do business in. I pay taxes in a similar way that I pay for my employees, and all the outside vendors that I pay. I am paying for a service. The government wouldn't be able to exist without my kind and the taxes I pay, and the taxes on the wages of the jobs I create. The government didn't do anything, We did that, We built the whitehouse, Capitol hill, the local courthouse. That wasn't the government, that was us. Not going there with you Kalm. Who the fuck is advocating a Somali style system? Hyperbole won't get you much here. I'm not advocating a total free market system. The socially engineered capitalistic hybrid we have is very nice, but I prefer a leader who sees the relationship as it truly is, and that is that the govt needs business way more than business needs the govt. Businessmen created our govt, not the other way around.kalm wrote:Meh. How much do dentists make in Somalia?UNI88 wrote:

Re: Obama gives Romney another talking point.
There is an article in our local paper that tries to put things into perspective.
She cites three examples of how businesses are helped by government. Here's just one of them:
• Tax deductions. Forget about creative tax advantages that allow hedge-fund managers to pay little or no taxes. Let’s even forget that money earned from stock incurs lower taxes than money earned working for a company to help create the value of the stock.
Let’s just look at the fact that businesses can deduct expenses denied to individuals.
A corporation can deduct the cost of a van to deliver goods. The van’s driver can’t deduct the car he drives to get to work, yet that’s a legitimate expense he incurs to create income for himself.
Businesses can deduct almost every expense, and individuals almost none.
Over and over again, government grants businesses benefits denied to individuals.
So if you have a successful company, yes, you built it.
But you didn’t build it alone.

Yeah, and a small business would not make it without the mob taking less money than they take from others.

Not needing government is the one of the core meme's of the Republican Party. They might not really mean it, but it's what a majority of their rhetoric is about. They declared war on government years ago.
