If you were the parent/family of
If you were the parent or family member of the shooter in Colorado, would you stand by him and be there to support him through this or would you meet him once, tell him how you feel, and be done with him?

No way you could stand by somebody after that. Some crimes, yes you could. But not something like this.
Re: If you were the parent/family of
Tough call. I would stand by my child through the trial and prison, but would have to accept the outcome. I'd still love my child.

Child, parent, or friend, I would meet them, and tell them exactly what I thought of them and be done with them. Never give them a second thought.Vidav wrote:No way you could stand by somebody after that. Some crimes, yes you could. But not something like this.

Think of Timothy McVeigh's dad - that's how I'd be. Impossible to comprehend, heart-breakingly sad, yet he's your son so you stand by him unless he cuts you off. What else can you do?

Or if your child kills himself too, I'd be like the Amish schoolhouse killer's mom:

Pure evil exists in this world, and sometimes comes to inhabit those close to you, often through no fault of their own. Only love conquers this - hatred just propagates it.
And fwiw the VT shooter was from my old neighborhood - my son knew Cho, and trust me he was a loner but not the anti-christ (at least not when he was in middle school and high school) - his poor, poor parents...

Amazingly, I would stand with D1B here. If he's proven to be insane, you gotta stand by him through therapy.
Of course, if he's NOT proven insane, then screw him....

Well, with that attitude, I could see why your offspring would be shooting people.

I love my kids with all of my being but if they did something like this guy I wouldn't stand with them. They would no longer be a part of my life. This is a horrible thing and is unforgivable, even if they are my blood.Cluck U wrote:grizzaholic wrote:

I could never disown my kids. I can disapprove, even rebuke them for what they do, but I would suck up the criticism I would receive and support them.
I can't even fathom abandoning my kids. Ever, for any reason. Even if they become Donks.

There is already some noise coming from this event saying the guy is not a sociopath. His demeanor on Monday seems to be attributed to the post effect of mania.D1B wrote:This. The interesting point is that JH studied nueroscience. He understands all the conditions that doctors are going to try and label. He had an impressive grant from the Gov't. Is he intelligent enough to fake it?
