Maybe in trendy, oh-so-progressive Seattle. Not in Houston. :coffee:

Same here. In fact, I work with many Boeing engineers. I'd say more are conservative than liberal.

You're working with engineers in a right-to-work state. Go to Seattle and make that comment to Boeing engineers. :ohno:

For the love of Pete, none of the Engineering teams I work with are Union
We have 27 in house full time Engineers ( non-union)
and we Hire out - which is mostly the clowns I work with - on projects that represent stuff that isn't "Wheelhouse"
Wheelhouse is a term me use to describe "core competency" areas

So anyway we were developing some apt-X Bluetooth micro-Transceivers
Which is certainly NOT our Wheelhouse - and the team we hired recently were pretty much liberals across the board

My old man is an engineer, and I would describe him as apolitical more than anything. I get the feeling that most of them are too practical-minded to waste a lot of time on something as inefficient and superficial as modern American politics. :twocents:

Most have no common sense. At least the ones I work with.

Do you mean no social skills? I don't think of myself, or other engineers that I know, as typically having a lack of common sense. :? We are typically wired to process efficiently, which often relates closely to common sense.

That too. I'mjust saying, the guys and girls I work with, seem to lack common sense. THere are exceptions (the Indians at the office) but a lot of them just lack it.

ACtually, the indians and the guy from MIT have common sense.

How can you tell if an engineer is extroverted?

That does make me laugh though. Some 30 years ago I learned that you can learn a lot about people by looking at their shoes. I have been doing it ever since and it is a pretty good indicator of their way of thinking (often better than relying on their clothes). Style and quality of the shoes can tell you a lot about that person.

The easiest thing is to follow the Vidav and GATW Public Interaction Technique®

Simply don't speak to people.

I've worked for the same civil engineering consultant for 16 years. It's funny because, for the most part, it's true.

You are professional (white collar), conservative, and are more concerned about quality and style than comfort. You have a taste for expensive things and care about your appearance.

Style is important as well. But just going off of the manufacturer, this person is either careful with his money, or does not have a taste for the finer things in life. Comfort is likely more important than style. Could be a professional but not a high priced lawyer, CPA, insurance, etc. Comfort may be important to the high priced professional because this person is on his feet a lot (doctor, real estate professional, etc.).

The style will narrow things down further.
