Here's the headline:
Louisiana Private Schools Teach Loch Ness Monster Is Real In Effort To Disprove Evolution Theory
No comment on my part at this point. I'll wait to see what you guys have to say.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

As all the world knows, I don't believe in Evolution. But that has GOT to be about the dumbest way possible to try "proving" Evolution wrong. If you're going to try Nessie, you better have a proven unShopped pic before you go blabbing about something THAT crazy. There are better ways to go about disproving that faulty theory. Latching onto something like THIS loses all cred whatsoever.

It's a private school...they are not getting their money's worth.

Anyone attempting to disprove evolution in the year 2012 is delusional, it really doesn't matter what method.

Of course, it's worse in a classroom setting, where no one is doing research, but rather pulling excuses out of their ass....

The alligator?
phylogenically speaking there is probably a difference between the loch ness and an alligator.

the short answer is:
alligator=possible and very probably
loch ness=while I won't say impossible, but extremely improbable.

Why do you think Nessie is improbable? I would assume the conditions of the lake have remained fairly constant over the years. Of course that is a grand assumption and I have no idea of any major shifts in environment, but just asking for fun.

*By the way, I am certainly not in agreeance with the method.

Because no one has seen it and apparently there's only one, yet it's land-locked.....the more it's elaborated on the more improbable/impossible it becomes

I could be wrong, but I believe all of those things have been done in the name of god. Many of them have, at various times and in certain religions been institutionalized into culture. No?

Only if you think that something so large could survive for thousands of years buried under a couple of miles of ice sheet. The answer is painfully obvious.

Have you read the Bible? God killed Egyptians, let Joshua kill complete tribes and sell the women into slavery. Adam and Eve had 3 sons and some how spawned the rest of humanity.

How about all the killing, rape, slavery and crimes done in Gods name?

I charge you to read the history of the bible and the bible itself. THe bible itself, translated from Aramic to Greek distorted many many words. Modern understandings of words are different than the meanins and understanding of those words back when this was written. Hell, even at the time of Jesus, Messiah was considered to be different things to different people. Educate yourself before you come to me, calling me out. I've spent 7 years studying religions and thier texts, you don't know shit.

:tothehand:

Like I said, know what you are talking about.

...."crimes done in God's name".....ya, done by people and individuals but sponsored by God?

So with your vaste knowledge of religions you should know that this has happened in many religions with people killing in "God's" name. Tamerlame killed more of his fellow Muslims than all "infidels" combined. The only Christians he continually presecuted were the Georgians (6 invasions of their country).

Many battles fought by the Israelites on the way and into Canaan were defensive: Exodus 17:8, Numbers 21: 1,3,21-32, Deuteronomy 2: 26-37, 3:1,Joshua 10:4.

In fact, the New Testament clearly reveals a God who redeems his enemies through Christ's substitutional, self-sacrificial, shame-bearing act of love (Romans 5:10).

You can google whatever info you want now days. You want to debate this...that is fine. You said it in your post about distortions and words not meaning the same thing in translations.

I'm more of a believer in the New Testament so what I come back with is more skewed to my beliefs in this. Read about what people have done in the name of religion......Ottoman Turk oppression, Crusades, Coptic Christian presecution in Egypt, Hindu oppression under Mughal rule....on and on in the name of "religion". We can debate that all you want.

Yes, the Aramic word for young girl had to Greek equivelant. It was closer to their word, "Virgin". That's just one example of something lost in translation. Also, to the Jews they thought a Messiah would be a military leader and save them from Roman control. However, Jesus calls himself the Messiah and wasn't a military leader (lost in translation).

Google? NO thanks, I go to the texts. However, to show you where you ignore God's murder of innocents, i'll Quote.

2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church.

Judges 1:1-8
After Joshua died, the Israelites asked the LORD, "Which tribe should attack the Canaanites first?" The LORD answered, "Judah, for I have given them victory over the land." The leaders of Judah said to their relatives from the tribe of Simeon, "Join with us to fight against the Canaanites living in the territory allotted to us. Then we will help you conquer your territory." So the men of Simeon went with Judah. When the men of Judah attacked, the LORD gave them victory over the Canaanites and Perizzites, and they killed ten thousand enemy warriors at the town of Bezek. While at Bezek they encountered King Adoni-bezek and fought against him, and the Canaanites and Perizzites were defeated. Adoni-bezek escaped, but the Israelites soon captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes. Adoni-bezek said, "I once had seventy kings with thumbs and big toes cut off, eating scraps from under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them." They took him to Jerusalem, and he died there. The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem and captured it, killing all its people and setting the city on fire.

HOw about this gem: Joshua 6:2
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.
Joshua 6: 20-21
When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys
1 Chronicles 21:9-14
The Lord said to Gad, David’s seer, 10 “Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.’”

11 So Gad went to David and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Take your choice: 12 three years of famine, three months of being swept away[a] before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the Lord —days of plague in the land, with the angel of the Lord ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should answer the one who sent me.”

13 David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is very great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”

14 So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
How about rape?

Deuteronomy 20:10-14
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you
Judges 5:30
They must be dividing the spoils they took: there must be a damsel or two for each man, Spoils of dyed cloth as Sisera's spoil, an ornate shawl or two for me in the spoil.
Slavery?
Leviticus 25:44-46
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.
Ephesians 6:5
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.

Exodus 21:2-6
If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever.

Source: THE BIBLE!

I think that is enough examples. So. Being that most people were illiterate, the ONLY way they could have written any of those books would be "divine inspiration." The OT is a history of the Jewish people and outlines laws, rules and consequences. These aren't my words. Those are the words of God. Logically, there is no way you can excuse such behavior. I'm sure you will. So, know what YOU are talking about. Oh, btw, nice deflection, trying to bring other religions into this. No religion is safe. However, this isn't about the Muslims or the Turks or any other cult. It is about Christianity (which MUST include Judaism until the birth of Christ). Like I said, atrocities and crimes have been done in Gods name, if you believe the Bible then the proof is right there. I know I won't sway your opinion.

Romans 5:10
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
That does not negate the fact that GOD ORDERED THE DEATHS OF THOUSANDS! They are saved through Christ? How merciful. Slaughtered by the Dad, Saved by the Son. :thumb:

Btw, I'm not an athiest. I was raised Roman Catholic and was very religious until I started studying and learning about religions. I like to think of myself as Enlightened.

You said it yourself that through these translations there are distortions. Deflection? I just gave some more examples in my train of thought. I am a Christian but I do not believe all of the "Bibles" , esp OT stories that they happened word for word. Many books of the Bible were writtten down many years and in some cases centuries after they supposedly happened. Now could people telling these stories have exaggerated or somehow got the true story screwed up?....you bet.

Was there killing-murder-rape-slavery in "Biblical" times? Sure there probably was, that was humanity in our history at that time.

Another example is tatoos. Some people think that someone is going to hell if they mark their bodies with tatoos. I have 6 of them on my body and they all mean something special to me. Now am I going to hell.....some will quote Leviticus 19:28 to support their arguement. IMO, that verse has to be put into context about the Israelites and the pagan people around them and God wanting to set his people apart from them. But to some I am going to hell but to me when my time comes, I don't think God is going to judge me on my 6 tats that I have in reference to my love for my wife and daughters...but that is my opinion. Like I said, others will say I'm going to burn for it.

You said you were raised Roman Catholic. I know some RCs that believe all non-RCs are going to hell because they are not RC. Do I believe this. No. Who is right? I guess we'll find out someday if you believe.

Another example is the "Flood" and Noah. Supposedly God killed everyone on Earth ex. Noah and his family on the Ark. Now did this happen? Maybe. IMO, the Flood and this story in the Bible is one that was told from the fillilng up of the Black Sea when the Med Sea flowed into it. There is not enough water on the planet to completely submerge all the land mass ex for the tallest peaks. So I believe this is what was handed down and told as a story that was put into the Bible.

Do I believe everything in the Bible word-for-word? No I don't, but many do. I believe Jesus died for our sins and we reach salvation thru him. You want to classify that as a "cult"...that is fine. This is your opinion.

With all of the passages that you quoted...ya, it does look like God "endorsed" all of those things. I believe God is a forgiving God that blesses us with his Grace. People sin, people make mistakes, people can be bad, people are bad. He sent his own son to die for us. Jesus knew this and accepted his fate.

Now if I was a Muslim, I could demand that you convert to Islam or I have the "devine right" to kill you if you don't. I certainly believe this is appauling but there are 1.5 billion persons that when push comes to shove would follow this lock step and key. Countless people have been killed in the name of religion and in all sadness it will continue.

My generalization about your original post was probably alittle "in your face" but you have obviously taken time to read about this. If this offended you then I apologize for it but anti-Christian remarks or statements like this get my blood pressure going up. I'm not a Biblical scholar that can spit out memorized texts about any subject. But I have read the Bible completely thru and believe that he is a forgiving God that sent his son to die for our salvation. You don't believe this....that is ok.
