I wasn't equating. Hence, "kinda."

But, I just find the irony especially rich when the qualities y'all laud as distinctly "American" describe Mexican immigrants far better than most "Americans." They work any job they can get... they're not above any sort of work and will work 10x harder than the alternative. They cross deserts with little water, food, and clothing to provide a better life for their kids back home. What JSO was describing does fit the Mexican immigration. Did European settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries give a fuck if they were settling on Mexican land or Indian land? No. They wanted to build a homestead for their family and damn anyone that tried to stop them.

You cannot, in any way, shape or form, compare the rampant illegal immigration of today (no matter WHERE it's happening) to the nation-building period of the 1700's and 1800's. It's like apples and oranges.

Well, I really don't want to get into a separate argument...

But, our settlers weren't moving freely across their own country. They were occupying territory of others nations (including Mexico) and Indian tribal land.
So what was the name of this so-called "Indian Nation" and where exactly were its borders?

You also need to read up on the Mexican-American War and it's origins and causes before you start claiming that Americans were "occupying" Mexican land.

Last year when this first surfaced there was a discussion in a farm trade publication about how this would affect "family" farmers. I put "family" in quotes because most family farmers are now incorporated and because the corporation is the farm owner/operator it is no longer a "family" farm that the kids are working at. They are working for a corporation and therefore no exemption for working at a family farm.

This is more stupid bureaucracy from people that have never set foot on a farm and have no idea what it involves. Just wait until the stories come up again about EPA trying to regulate farm dust.

]Documentary filmmaker U. Roberto Romano shines an illuminating light on the plight of itinerant underage migrant workers in America, who work grueling hours to feed their families yet aren't protected by child labor laws. Shot during the 2009 harvest season, the film profiles 12-year-old Zulema Lopez, 14-year-old Perla Sanchez, and 16-year-old Victor Huapilla -- each of whom regularly labor for 14 hours a day, seven days a week, to pick the produce that feeds America. Unable to achieve any real sense of stability as their families move from town to town in search of work, some of the youths give up on their dreams early on as others strive for the day they can get an education, and advocate for other manual laborers who lack the voice or political clout to make a real change.

Are you assuming the kids in the documentary are illegal since they're hispanic?

Obama’s Attacks on the Family Farm Come Straight From Marxist Handbook
Gateway Pundit ^ | April 26,2012 | Jim Hoft

Barack Obama is attacking the family farm – an American tradition. The administration’s Department of Labor implemented new regulations to restrict children from working on the family farm.

For generations children and adults have worked together on the family farm. Those days are over.

Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) introduced the Preserving America’s Family Farm Act, to prevent the Department of Labor (DOL) from enacting its controversial proposed restrictions that would ban children from working on family farms.

Recently, Senator John Thune spoke out against the Obama Administration’s proposed labor rules for youth who work on farms and ranches on the Senate floor.

The Marxist-Leninist dogma said, “A small property generates capitalism day by day, minute by minute, spontaneous, and in mass proportions.” The small-time farmer feeding his family, with a little surplus, was seen as an individual member of the bourgeoisie, requiring squashing.

Redistributing wealth is the only thing communists know how to do brutally and stealthily well. Those who do not pay taxes or hold down jobs protest that it is their right to steal someone else’s money. They’ve even come up with a new euphemism, they are not stealing the wealth of producers, they are merely forcing them to “share the burden.”

But it is stealing! Every moment of time that we must work to earn money and pay taxes that are then spent by our out-of-control government on non-producers is a moment too long that we are slaves to someone else, a moment of time that is stolen from our limited time on earth.

I worked side-by-side with them in the sugar beet fields during the weekends and after they got home from school during the summer. Yes they had a school for the migrant workers children in the summer in North Dakota. They got free housing and utilities. They lived in the farmhouse we lived in before we moved town. The government was very strict on their living conditions. They would buy a sheep at the beginning of the summer and let it graze in our pasture, and have a big fiesta after the beet season was over. They would have me trap raccoons for them to eat. Some stayed up north in different small towns and became a permanent part of the community. But that is only what I experienced, not what some political group told me.

It might not be a 1 to 1, apples to apples comparison but there are parallels between illegal immigration today and immigration in the 1800's. The obvious parallel is that most immigrants are looking for a better life for themselves and their family. You can't tell me that if the U.S. borders had been closed in the 1800's that many immigrants wouldn't have still tried to come to the U.S. Irish leaving during the Potato Famine, Germans, Poles, Italians, etc. many would still have immigrated, legally or illegally. So it's oranges to tangerines. :D

What about immigrant families who need the extra income? You're going to tell Pedro his six kids have to go to school so that he and his wife can cut their hours on their $3.00 an hour jobs to support them all? Are the donks taking a page from the conk playbook and trying to create incentives for illegals to leave?

This seems like feel-good social justice to me, sort of like believing that boycotting sweatshop products will mean better lives for the people in the sweatshops.

Good job Repubs. I also worked on farms when I was a kid to make spending money. It's a great way to teach kids the value of a days work, and that they need to keep their asses in school so they don't have to grow up and do that shit for a living everyday. We used to bail hay for my uncle and some other farmers in our area. My brother and I would also help milk the cows, feed the hogs, etc., etc. We were pretty young when we started, but we loved it. Had some great experiences along the way.

As for the two migrant kids, I don't see how this helps them at all. Pretty much fucks them in the ass since it takes away their only realistic source of income without addressing the loss whatsoever. Sounds like unintended consequences to me.

If the immigration laws were enforced this would not be an issue...

The situation described above, while heartbreaking, is nothing more than collateral damage from the federal government's failure to enforce the laws on the books.
