But, I just find the irony especially rich when the qualities y'all laud as distinctly "American" describe Mexican immigrants far better than most "Americans." They work any job they can get... they're not above any sort of work and will work 10x harder than the alternative. They cross deserts with little water, food, and clothing to provide a better life for their kids back home. What JSO was describing does fit the Mexican immigration. Did European settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries give a fuck if they were settling on Mexican land or Indian land? No. They wanted to build a homestead for their family and damn anyone that tried to stop them.
You cannot, in any way, shape or form, compare the rampant illegal immigration of today (no matter WHERE it's happening) to the nation-building period of the 1700's and 1800's. It's like apples and oranges.
