Why aren't you up in arms about kids under 16 not being allowed to drive with full privileges?

Who is the government to say who can drive and who can't?! Stop the Nanny State DMV!! Let the parents decide if their kids are responsible enough to drive!!
Pretty sure you can when you are 15 in Montana. 12 if you work on a ranch...oops...not any more if this passes.

First, this isn't a bill.

Second, where are you getting that they wouldn't be allowed to work on a farm owned by their grandparents? The grandparents' farm would fit under my definition of family farm for sure.
Unfortunately YOUR definition isn't the one they're planning to use if this abortion of a proposal does become a bill.

It is truly sad that anyone can seriously argue that any of these proposals make any sense at all. I love seeing SK and Co. defend this stuff along the lines that it is just little harmless regulations rather than the big bad ones.

You guys miss the point on this, typical.

Sure thing, so lets just have Government step in and expedite the process, huh?

Nope.

In Montana you have a restricted license until you're 18.

They even regulate the hours you are allowed to drive until you're 18.

AZ, quick question.

Isn't there bigger problems going on with the U.S.A. than petty shit like this, NFL rules, MLB steroids, and who is at fault for Global Warming?

I got one when I was 14, for ranch stuff, then when 2 weeks after I turned 15 I got my actual one in the mail. Never had any restrictions.

Fucking dumb rule.

I think the Capn' is just jerking chains but this country really IS irrationally obsessed with safety and risk reduction. I was thinking of that the other day when I was watching this commercial that comes on a lot. Don't even remember what it's for or the exact words. But it's this upper middle aged guy talking about how when he was a kid he used to ride his bike down this road he was standing on WITHOUT A HELMET. Then he says something about the HUGE risks he used to take. Like a kid riding a bike without a helmet is a HUGE RISK.

And the character is the commercial was absolutely serious. That was being seriously portrayed as REALLY taking a risk.

To me that says it all. It's over for this country. It's just a matter of time. And probably not that much. We have really turned into a truly pathetic population. And to think we started off with people who were willing to cross oceans in wooden ships with sails then cross a continent in covered wagons enduring all sorts of risk and hardship.

Now we worry about riding our bicycles without helmets or driving a mile down the road without our seat belt buckled. Pathetic.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Well, I really don't want to get into a separate argument...

But, our settlers weren't moving freely across their own country. They were occupying territory of others nations (including Mexico) and Indian tribal land.

No kidding. Driving in rural america in farm country is a lot different than driving rush hour in a major city. Parents should be able to decide if their kids are responsible enough to drive. Keep on spinning.

I wasn't equating. Hence, "kinda."

But, I do find the irony especially rich when the qualities y'all laud as distinctly "American" describe Mexican immigrants far better than most "Americans." They work any job they can get... they're not above any sort of work and will work 10x harder than the alternative. They cross deserts with little water, food, and clothing to provide a better life for their kids back home. What JSO was describing does fit the Mexican immigration. Did European settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries give a fuck if they were settling on Mexican land or Indian land? No. They wanted to build a homestead for their family and damn anyone that tried to stop them.

Who moved into the territory of a previous tribes before them. Various tribes fought other tribes for land long before them. Mexico was formed by invading Spaniards. The Aztecs and Maya all conquered others and took their land. Just depends on where you want to start the spin.
