Stop the nonsense.

People are responsible for their own behavior and choices. Being "shamed" into "deceit" by a particular culture is a ridiculous excuse for any behavior, especially when you make a false commitment to living the rest of your life with another person. Are straight people "shamed" into marrying the wrong person...and if so would you blame society or the individual for their decision?

"Oh, John really was pressured into marrying Molly. It's so sad that he felt he had to marry her when he really had a not-so-secret yearning for blondes."

"Oh, poor Tinkerbell...her family was not as wealthy as the rest of her private school classmates. She felt pressured to wear the latest and greatest things, and her classmates, the school, television, and society are to blame for her shoplifting those clothes." :tothehand:

"Slayman was a good man. He only killed that person because he was shamed into not taking a low paying job so that led to his life of crime. Societal pressure made him a killer." :dunce:

Excuses, pure and simple. Life is hard and certainly not fair, but buck up and be honest.
Cluck, you should know by know that in the donk world NOTHING is EVER the individual's fault. :coffee:

You mean the Bull Meese? (Not to be confused with Ed Meese.) And look how well TR did with that.

I've said it before: TR would be a Clinton Democrat today. He was no small-government conservative.
And where would the father of today's conservative movement - the pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, anti-religious extremism, small government Barry Goldwater fit in today's Conk-o-sphere?

Romney and Obama are basically both Clinton Democrats. And Clinton was a small government conservative. :coffee:

Gee I wonder why you're party can't seem to find a reasonable candidate outside of the Mormon and crony capitalism shackled Mitt.

There should be a lard levy or fat tax. It could be assessed at Walmart checkouts.

Barry Goldwater and Bush I: The only two Conk leaders I even remotely respect. Goldwater because, though he was a deep, dark Conk, he was respectful of opponents, always took the high road and did not fight dirty. Bush 1 because he knew he had to deviate from Reagan's destructive policies...and did.

Cute...but a distraction.

People are responsible for their choices. Clinton got impeached because he lied...not because he didn't or did have sex in the White House.

There are problems everywhere...right now there is someone bitching in Finland, probably in the form of a badly written poem, against their "mature" education system because he was directed towards a trade and away from an English degree.

Buck up and own your choices and the world would be better off for it.

You turned it into a personal responsibility deal. Craig got outed and paid the price for not being man enough to stand up for who he was in the Mormon controlled theocracy of South Idaho. Pussy. :ohno:

I didn't turn it into a personal responsibility deal. It simply IS a personal responsibility deal.

You said he was shamed into his behavior by the existing culture...shame doesn't come from the ouside...not from a "theocracy controlled" anything.

Just to be clear, are we talking the same Larry Craig? The creep who was caught in a bathroom soliciting sex? The closet gay who repeatedly and publicly had a record of anti-gay legislation? If so, he wasn't shamed by anything other than his own choices and bahavior.

I don't give a crap if he was in Morman territory or if he was in Provincetown, MA...makes no difference. The guy was a lying sack of shvt who, for his own personal advancement, decided to lead a false life. No different than a pedophile in the church...are you saying those preists are victims and their behavior is a result of the existing culture?

When caught, Craig, typical of lying sacks of shvt, tried to blame everyone else by saying they were mistaken or had an agenda. It was he who had the agenda. The rest is crap.

Should he take responsibility for living a lie or for being gay? I'm all on board with the responsibility thing and it would have been nice if came out and was honest about who he was. It would have been even better if he never felt compelled to hide it in the first plance. Everyone feels shame from time to time including you. At issue is what causes that shame. Pedophilia should, being gay shouldn't.

See, there's where we disagree. Discrimination is everywhere in many forms...skin color, religion, accent, weight, height, big nosed, red hair, ugly, shyness, financial (can you imagine the pressure Cap'n was under...he fits, with a little help from a crowbar, almost every woeful category one can think of)...you name it and people will treat you differently and deny (or provide) you opportunity. And everyone discriminates on some level...despite some whack jobs trying to say otherwise.

In the end, you can choose to let that crap slow you down and change you or you can choose to be yourself. No one is "compelled" to do anything...but too many people are lemmings. They CHOOSE to do things and then blame everyone else for their problems.

I respect the people who are honest with themselves and others.
