At some point Hen, you're going to have to own up to the hypocrisy of espousing the gospel values of Jesus Christ AND the immoral values of your political religion/economic system.

Every time I call you on it, I get this:

Discussing with you is pointless. :coffee

Thanks both of you for noting part one of the rant. The founder (sister of SGK) founded the charity to "do everything she could to end the disease" - but is now raking in a half-million plus in salary a year - she has skimmed millions off the top since the charity was founded - nice racket.

Saw a friend yesterday who works in corporate giving for his company, so I asked him about the Komen-PP fracas. He had an interesting outlook. He said, long-term, the big loser in this turf war would be PP. He explained that he doubted that any corporation or not-for-profit not presently donating to PP is going to start now, out of fear that perhaps that once they start giving to PP, they will not be able to get out of the relationship in the future without a public spectacle damaging to their brand.

He joked that PP reacted like a jealous, possessive, stalking ex-spouse. So, knowing that, who would enter into a relationship with PP when there is apparently no easy way of getting out?

He also speculated that groups currently funding PP will gradually cut back too, out of fear of having their brand tainted by an association with PP. In this respect, in light of recent events, he said that Komen's biggest mistake was by funding PP in the first place. Knowing that, not many organizations will repeat that mistake.

We'll see.

Funny, your friend, who is undoubtably a world-renowned expert on corporate giving, missed the part about the fact that is was the Komen chapters who raised holy hell regarding the decision, not so much PP. This aside, your friend really said that current PP funders are not already aware of the PR liability or benefits of involvement with PP: essentially that they gave, willy nilly to a charity? :dunce:

Your friend really thinks this issue is the first for PP. They've been down this road before, many times, and almost all were far more grave than what happened last week.

Since the Komen debacle, PP has recieved millions in new revenue and more important, new supporters. Komen will be reeling from the effects of their cowardess for years. Practically everyone I've talked to is pulling their support, not doing the run this year and many are forwarding support to PP.

Sounds like you need a new friend, Joe: real or imaginary. :coffee:

PP's "supporters" are tight with their generosity. Only 21% of PP's expenses are covered by private donations -- substantially below the norm for a not-for-profit charitable organization. But the old hen network (I love the fact that they cannot grasp why they lack the support of a majority of young women) is certainly loud.

Apples and oranges. There are a myriad of different charities who have different revenue streams. For instance, your Barbershop Quartet Alumni Fund is 100% funded with private donations. Charities like PP, YWCA, YMCA and others rely far less on private support and more on public grants or endowments.

Are you kidding Joe? Absolutely they grasp why they lack support in certain demographics. We all grasp it. It's people like you, your church and the people they pay to villify abortion and BC providers. This is no secret and this is why people like you and your church are major factors contributing to higher abortion numbers.

Really? Sentiment towards abortion is changing right now. I don't know if it will happen in my lifetime, but I hope one day more people will agree that it's not a choice, it's a life.

Major factors to higher abortion numbers? I think not. People who are so inclined to follow the church so as to not use birth control are in NO WAY going to have an abortion. Think about it, which is a bigger deal, using a condom or aborting a child?

That's an interesting take. I'm not sure I've heard many people say that. If you think it's a life, then you must think it's murder. All the pro-choice people I've heard argue this don't agree that it's a life that's being taken.
