There goes a lot of the glitz out of this most outrageous presidential campaign in our nations history.
Still going to be entertaining but damn, this is like losing half of the SNL Not Ready For Prime Time Players in one day.

He and Romney are the only adults in the room for sure, but Newt and Santorum should provide us with some comic relief for a couple more weeks.AZGrizFan wrote:Wedgebuster wrote:There goes a lot of the glitz out of this most outrageous presidential campaign in our nations history.

I won't miss Bachmann constantly professing that "I'm a serious candidate for President of the United States." I think she's said it several times in every time I've heard one of her soundbites.
No you weren't, sweetheart, but thanks for playing.
Does the Iowa caucus really carry that much weight? They've been getting it wrong for a while now.

I like Paul. The guy has his faults but I like his honesty and his willingness to create waves. Also, he subscirbes to the Austrian School of economics, which I'm starting to learn about and think that it might be better than Kenysen (sp?) economics.

I think a deal has been cut between Perry and Romney. Romney needs Perry to stay in to split the more conservative/evangelical vote. Perry staying in keeps splitting the vote which helps Romney.AZGrizFan wrote:Now Perry is back in.

Deal? Like the Vice Presidency for Perry if Mitt gets the top job? Why would Romney do that? I don't know if it would be VP, but maybe energy secretary or head of the EPA, paying off campaign debt, job at Bain Capital. Whatever works to keep him in the race.

I agree that Keynesian economics has clearly been shown to be fatally flawed in many ways - it's hard to argue otherwise given the most recent examples of its shortcomings. I'm not entirely comfortable with the Austrian view, though. I think they take the good parts of the Chicago School of thought (Friedman, not Obama) and then get a little crazy. That's probably what appeals to Ron Paul - he likes to flirt with crazy every now and then.Ivytalk wrote:Read F.A. Hayek or Murray Rothbard, Mark.Ibanez wrote: why do you think so? Might not be a bad idea. It gives the evangelicals a reason to vote for Romney, something they aren't doing right now.Ivytalk wrote:Deal? Like the Vice Presidency for Perry if Mitt gets the top job? The big winner in Iowa last night was Obama. If the GOP stays this fractured Obama will win in a landslide. A Romney-Perry ticket might work.

I have Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics by Henry Hazlitt on my reading list.Ivytalk wrote:Read F.A. “I strongly recommend that every American acquire some basic knowledge of economics, monetary policy, and the intersection of politics with the economy. No formal classroom is required; a desire to read and learn will suffice. There are countless important books to consider, but the following are an excellent starting point: The Law by Frédéric Bastiat; Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt; What has Government Done to our Money? by Murray Rothbard; The Road to Serfdom by Friedrich Hayek; and Economics for Real People by Gene Callahan.
If you simply read and comprehend these relatively short texts, you will know far more than most educated people about economics and government. You certainly will develop a far greater understanding of how supposedly benevolent government policies destroy prosperity. If you care about the future of this country, arm yourself with knowledge and fight back against economic ignorance. We disregard economics and history at our own peril.”
—Ron Paul, Representative from Texas

That logic (of '86's) is hilarious. The '08 Iowa Dem caucuses had THREE candidates within 7 points of each other, yet somehow they managed. This vote reallly doesn't mean shit except it got one nutjob out of the race. Once we get this herd thinned to a manageable number, we'll be just fine.BDKJMU wrote:Yeah, the Donks were sure hurt in 08' when they were fractured between Obama & Hillary almost all the way to the donk convention.BlueHen86 wrote:

I think you're underestimating the bat shit crazy wing of your party. The fundies are a block so if they can be splintered in the short term to give Mitt the nomination then called back into the fold by one of their own being nominated VP, it makes sense.AZGrizFan wrote:That logic (of '86's) is hilarious.
