I wouldn't say that. As a Civil Libertarian and economic realist, I'd rather vote for Perry. Sure he's what would be considered a religious right nutjub, but when you look past that he's got great credibility. He's been the governor of one of the most populous and economically thriving states in the union for a decade. He's got more credentials than Obama did that's for sure and other than the religious aspects I think he's a great candidate.

Clinton defeated George H.W Bush in 1992
Wilson defeated William Taft was defeated in 1916
Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford in 1976

Obama has a good, solid chance and the GOP has to put up some serious, new muscle. The old guard won't cut it. It's going to take a fresher face and indivdual to go against Obama. Obama has his hurdles to cross, no doubt, but has a tremendous advantage.

true true.....but you forgot about Adams I, Adams II, Van Buren, Cleveland, Harrison, and Hoover all lost reelection as incumbents, Johnson practically lost reelection as well. Not to mention the mishaps with WHH/JT, Zack Taylor/MF, Andrew Johnson (taking over for Lincoln), Garfield/Arthur, and Harding dying in office.
