Pathetic

Post by JohnStOnge »

Two pictures. When I think about the people who built the country, I think of images like this:

Image

As I contemplate the current debate over restructuring Medicare and look at videos of disgusting people upset about possibiliy seeing some diminishment in an entitlement program, I think of this:

Image

That, to me, is a metaphor for what a critical mass of the United States population has come to. Parasites.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I can't find who originally said this ...I always thought it was Ben Franklin but has been a fitting statement.

"When the populace realizes they can vote themselves money it will bode the end of the republic."

The problem with medicare is the price of medical care.

The problem with social security is...wait, isn't social security running a surplus and solvent without any adjustments for another 35 years?

More like 25 years.....and the time frame keeps shrinking.

So do wait until it is insolvent before doing anything, or wait until insolvency is, say, 10 years away?

So, where do we go with that one then? What's the solution to that? We want more and more medical advances, but we really don't want to pay for it. Sounds doable. :ohno:

Get ready for a healthcare system where PA's have most of the contact with patients and doctors just kind of work behind the scenes doing paperwork. That'll cut costs for sure.

And the majority of that problem is medicare.
Plus, Obama cutting $500 Billion from medicare to fund his boondoggle certainly didn't help.

A storage unit full of IOU's in Parkersburg, West Virginia doesn't really qualify as a surplus.

Where the fuck have you been the last ten years, Harold?

I've not seen my doctor in 8 years, except at a fundraiser. I see her NP (Nurse Practitioner) who is fantastic. My doctor just checks blood tests and consults, if needed.

We're a very unhealthy nation (AZ, Tman, Hogan and other fat disgusting drunk fucks here :ohno: ) with staggeringly high percentages of lifestyle diseases like obesity, cancer and diabetes. We get that shit under control and healthcare costs plummet.

But god forbid the First Lady tries to do something about it, or the government bans trans fat.....the fucking conks here go batshit and cry nanny state, blah blah blah...all so Tman can have his Little Debbies and AZ can dip his freedom fries in pork gravy at breakfast.

"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

It certainly pays less then private insurance which is why more doctors are refusing to accept and are dropping it every day.
EDIT:
Besides, how do you know? Show me someone over 65 years old who is on private insurance instead of Medicare and then we will compare costs. :coffee:

Medicare operates on somewhere around a 5% overhead. The 36 countries ahead of us in outcomes have single payer non profit systems that provide healthcare for less than we do. :coffee:

On a per-person comparison, Medicare's administration costs are about 25% higher than private insurance. :coffee:

According to whom?

Every RELIABLE account out there indicates that Medicare and the VA both operate at around 5% overhead - whereas private insurance is somewhere between 25% and 25%... more to the point - they, by definition, don't need to have a profit margin in there...

You don't need to have a 'reliable' source to tell you that 1+1=2. Add the numbers up yourself. If you want to compare apples to oranges, of course Medicare is more 'efficient' as a whole. It only has a fraction of the members private insurance companies have but pay astronomically higher in claims. In a apples to apples comparison, per member administration costs for private insurance is much more efficient than Medicare. And BTW, overhead for private insurance companies averages between 12% and 14%, not 25%.

More to the point, by definition, Medicare doesn't have to pay state and federal taxes like private insurance companies do. Also, 10%-20% of the overhead for private companies goes to preventing fraud and waste, something Medicare does not do.
