California VOTERS did this to themselves. this is what governance via ballot measure gets you. it's very easy to put a ballot measure up that says "more and longer jail terms!" "more funding for after-school programs!" "i don't wanna pay any taxes ever!"... what you end up with is two things... politicians who have completely abdicated any sense of leadership or responsibility, because when they do make hard choices, they are met with recalls... and state budget so completely fucked that virtually nothing will bring it back from the precipice.

The decades-entrenched Leftislature out here hasn't passed anything of significance in decades. Mention "reform", and you'll be wisked away never to be seen or heard from again. Thankfully, CA has the initiative process which is THE ONLY AVENUE available to Californian's to clean up the governmental refuse left behind by our Leftislature's ill-thought social engineering schemes.
Industry (read "tax base") has been fleeing the state for the past 26 years, primarily a result of the Leftislature's short-sighted, heavy-handed taxation and regulation. It's 100% political. Shit on business, take their money, buy a vote with a govt. handout.
So long as those purchased voters continue to gullibly swallow the shit fed to them by the Donks, California will continue to flounder in distress: Voters demanding on secure neighborhoods, while our Leftislature parades cuts to public safety and corrections, while hiding the other 60% of the pie behind their back, selfishly protected for targeted purchased vote programs (entitlements) and "special projects" politically engineered to preserve the Donk's stranglehold on CA's legislative reach.

Justices upheld an order from a three-judge panel in California that called for releasing 38,000 to 46,000 prisoners. Since then, the state has transferred about 9,000 state inmates to county jails. As a result, the total prison population is now about 32,000 more than the capacity limit set by the panel.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, speaking for the majority, said California's prisons had "fallen short of minimum constitutional requirements" because of overcrowding. As many as 200 prisoners may live in gymnasium, he said, and as many as 54 prisoners share a single toilet.

...must be a coincidential correlation.

2) Their former Pres, Don Novey helped me out with some labor relations issues back in the 80's...gotta get his back. There's a handful of fucks in the biz, but most are stand up guys. Personally, I'd never recommend that career path to ANYONE. Everyone I know's been divorced at least once, has over-extended themselves financially, been sued annually, and has been off work at least once a min. of 6mos due to injuries. Money's good, but conditions suck.

CA prisoners have better diet, healthcare (complete with dental and vision) and living conditions than most sub-$45k income families.

They have free access to education, libraries (including internet), are provided paying jobs during their incarceration, state-paid spiritual advisers, a living stipend and further job training once released...

...basically, everything a law-abiding, honest, hard working person wishes they could afford, or slaves around the clock to provide.

Much of this "conditions" hoopla arose from a prisoner's rights group objecting to locating prisons in the central valley, near farming. They sued, claiming the prisoners' health was jeopardized by their exposure to mold-carrying airborn dirt and dust resulting from farming. They cited a health study of Avenal and Pleasant Valley prisons and the frequency of "Valley Fever" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccidioid ... te_note-11. After years of trying, that suit never gained traction, principally because the inmates complaint ignored the contra indicator that millions of non-incarcerated Californians lived in the central valley and were exposed to the same levels of coccidioidomycosis as the prisoners...and have been for centuries...yet the frequency of illness due to exposure had never before been documented as a major health risk. After years of trying to push this bitch through, the prisoner's rights groups dropped it and moved on to more fertile ground, overcrowding.

Sidebar: The increase in violent crime in CA since the economy went into the shitter has been VERY NOTABLE. Homicides, drive-by's, stabbings, assault with deadly weapons...all have escalated. ...........I've never seen anything like this.
