But once hunting season starts 10k+ empty seats would make the place seem pretty empty and then the weather gets crappy. Reason #1 why we play in a dome is because nobody wants to sit outside in our crappy November weather and watch football for four hours in gusty winds and freezing temps. I've heard our AD singing the dome's praises on crappy late season gamedays.

The new basketball arena is perfect, no team outside of a high major conference needs a huge basketball arena. 5-7k seats is perfect for NDSU's current and future needs.

As for FBS, no school near us is ready to move up and I doubt any conference(except maybe the WAC) would take NDSU alone. NDSU's admin clearly doesn't want to join a league and be a far flung outlier, our AD pretty much said we have no interest in moving up. NDSU's only chance for FBS is if the MVFC one day wants to give it a try and if that happens it won't be anytime soon.
Good thing we don't have hunters or shitty weather here.

Well, no hunters after the wolves ate all the deer and elk.

Had to have been below 0 with the wind chill for Griz-Cat this year, although attendance definitely suffered because of it. :ohno:

Missoula has colder avg. temps in Sept. & Oct. than Fargo and November is Fargo by about 3 degrees. We're pretty much a wash across the board on all temps in the period. The avg. wind is a negligible difference in favor of Fargo by about 4-5 MPH. Considering the Fargo # is 12-13 MPH I don't know that we should even use it.

In other words it is so similar you are splitting hairs on that one.

One game and one day you had Fargo weather for your team's biggest game.

Fargo is one of the windiest cities in the US, Missoula isn't even the top 100. The difference in wind is significant. If you lived here for a year you'd realize it quickly.

According to weather.com Fargo's average high is 6 degrees colder in November and 11 degrees colder in December.

So what are the significant #'s if mine are incorrect? I went with avg. Sept., Oct., & Nov. #'s.

In Sept., & Oct. you are dealing with 57 & 45 degrees respectively so I assume with the 13MPH wind the windchill must be pretty tough to take?

Missoula is a couple degrees colder in that period with 6 or 7 MPH winds and I don't even remember seeing a "wind chill" reading around here for 45-55 degree weather so that extra 5 or 6 MPH must really pack a punch?

I don't care what your rank is if the difference is real small it is not significant.

Fargo Game Day in September:

Wife: You about ready for the Bison game?

Husband: I'm not sure, let me check the weather...ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? HONEY IT'S 57 with a 13 MPH wind out there! We live in one of the windiest towns in America and that equates to a temperature of about 54 degrees!

Wife: It's a domed stadium you fuckin' pussy!

Husband: There's still a parking lot right bitch?! Unless you got a teleportation device I ain't fucking doing it!!

Wife: I really should have moved to Missoula and found a man when I was young and hot.

I already said the we could sell out a 25k seat outdoor stadium in September and most of October. The weather is great at that time, the bottom falls out in November. That is when people don't want to sit outside in the cold and wind, that is why we have a damn dome.

If you are talking about Wind Speed, 12.5/12.8/12.2 MPH is significantly more than 5.1/5.0/4.7 which are the average wind speeds for Fargo and Missoula in October/November/Decemeber.

Lakes knows this market better than anyone here. He also knows, as do I, that FBS competition, both in conference and OOC, would fill 25,000 seats. The FFD increased attendance by 25% or so. The FCS move just about doubled that. An FBS move would make up the needed 8 - 10,000 seats we are talking about. Its not going to be long until hunting wont matter.

The first door to FBS football at NDSU opened today. The Big Ten announced the Big 10 Hockey league and Wisconsin and Minnesota announced they are leaving the WCHA (http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/a ... id/197564/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). The WCHA needs a school. They recently added UNO. Taylor says NDSU is going to add sports.

Lakes and I are probably the only BISON fans posting here that support a new stadium, I just hope the rest of you naysayers aren't on the wrong side of this issue and actually fight against it. There was huge resistance to the FFD and Decision 1. All of this talk against growth in the NDSU athletic department has been spewed before. The planners, the movers and the shakers will make this happen.

What do you say Lakes, is the Big 12 a remote possibility?

Significantly more translates to Fargo @ 18 degrees with Missoula at 25 degrees. I see what you're saying when you "significant" cuz that's a big difference.

I do however acquiesce that you made the point of November but I had to use the Sept. #'s for comedic effect. My apologies.

If you and lakes are the two putting the money up then I doubt you'll have any problem.

If you're planning on spending other people's money they may want to give their input. I'm sure you understand. :thumb:

JBB you and lakes can start fundraising for all I care. Call me when you need that last $250 to build this new stadium, I will gladly donate it.

Maybe I should adjust that number for inflation....$250 might not be worth the same when this monumental fundraising campaign is completed.

Its going to be tough to tell when the last $250 is needed, so I suggest you just keep your powder dry and plan on providing some food at the first tailgate. :thumb:

Besides nobody is starting to raise funds yet, its still a pipe dream, but some things do seem to be lining up. Certainly we are arriving at agreement on how many seats we need in the new stadium. I take that as a positive step forward.

I also take your offer of $250 as another positive: when the time comes it indicates you wont be out front fighting the plan.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

<<ATTENTION NDSU FANS:CRITICAL WCHA UPDATE>>
Starting to look like the WCHA is out of the question for NDSU. Und fans are calling for Notre Dame and Miami. Oh well. They are going to sue UMN and Wisconsin if they dont schedule them too, if the North Dakota State Legislature doesnt pass a law requiring them to schedule UND first.

A possible outcome to all of this FCS to FBS will be a spin off of the BCS schools into a separate division and a reshuffle of the remaining programs into conference affiliations appropriate for market and geography.

Yes that is a possibility. It's one that many of us went over last year when the BCS conferences looked to be lining themselves up to have four or five super conferences. It's also part of the reason why I say that a move up to another FBS conference now is gonna seem pretty pointless if you will not be able to get into a BCS conference.
