EPA College Football Gameday Challenge

Post by aceinthehole »

Central Connecticut State University is one of just two state universities taking part in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Game Day Challenge. During this Saturday's football game vs. Wagner at 12 p.m., CCSU will be working with the fans in attendance to recycle as much material as possible. Only 87 football programs nationwide are taking part in the EPA's Game Day Challenge this season.

Universities and colleges from around the nation will wage a friendly competition to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the most waste. The amount of waste generated and recycled will determine which school is the greenest. Winners will be recognized for several categories including: least amount of waste generated per attendee, greatest greenhouse gas reductions, highest recycling rate, highest organics reduction rate (i.e., food donation and composting) and highest combined recycling and composting rate.

Paper, beverage containers, cardboard boxes and mixed recyclable materials will be given special attention. In addition, Coca Cola will have displays and assist in the collections.

Fans will be encouraged to dispose of all clean paper goods and other materials with the help of CCSU staff.

At the end of the day, the collected materials will be weighed and the day’s totals sent to the EPA.

Gonna be interesting for SIU to do this when we've got an away game.

Marist? They might get five cups and two hot dog wrappers if they sell out. ;)

I'm guessing that different schools participate on different weekends.

Recycle at The Rock has been going on for a number of years. Our *Day* was several weeks ago.

*Recyclage* (Is that a proper noun? )

2008: 8.6 tons
2009: 8.5 tons (one less game)

And I don't see a list of schools other than CCSU posted anywhere in the article, or linked to it.
It was added by someone else on this thread. Not sure where they got that list, but whatever their source was probably has more information about the timeframe.

Alcorn should have a lot to recycle with the Jags coming to town. Should be a great tailgating time, and if I know my Jags correctly there should be a lot of trash.
