During this Saturday's football game vs. Wagner at 12 p.m., CCSU will be working with the fans in attendance to recycle as much material as possible. Only 87 football programs nationwide are taking part in the EPA's Game Day Challenge this season.
Universities and colleges from around the nation will wage a friendly competition to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the most waste. The amount of waste generated and recycled will determine which school is the greenest. Winners will be recognized for several categories including: least amount of waste generated per attendee, greatest greenhouse gas reductions, highest recycling rate, highest organics reduction rate (i.e., food donation and composting) and highest combined recycling and composting rate.
Paper, beverage containers, cardboard boxes and mixed recyclable materials will be given special attention. In addition, Coca Cola will have displays and assist in the collections.
Fans will be encouraged to dispose of all clean paper goods and other materials with the help of CCSU staff.
At the end of the day, the collected materials will be weighed and the day’s totals sent to the EPA.
A total of 18 FCS schools will be participating:
