I hope so. :thumb: Just hate to run into the Canadians a second time around even though the US has looked better the last few games.

Still galled at the fact a Canadian judge was able to make a DQ call on Ohno. That's absurd.

#35 US men vs. Canada in the team pursuit (speed skating) tomorrow - at least a silver.

#36 hockey game

37 if USA1 can hold on in bobsled.

More?
US Woman ar ein final four for womens persuit. semis and finals tomorrow. FWIW USA had best time in quarterfinals.

Also US has 3 guys well able to medal in mens slalom, though none are expected to...but then no one expected anything from Bode this year and hes done well.

Yup, we race the Germans in the semi - I think they won the gold in Turin. It's why I didn't list it. A medal here would be a bonus.

at worse they face Poland or Japan for bronze so medaling is a very real possibility.

If you want to read some stuff for amusement, check out:

I've been following it for over a week now. First the Canadians were humiliated with the Own The Podium debacle. Now they're olympic champions because they lead the gold medal count.

i never got that. Just cause u win more golds doesnt make u the winner...

Its like a baseball team having the pitcher with the most wins, the one with the best ERA, the hitter with the most HRs the hitter with most RBI and hitter with best AVG but finishing 3rd in your division. Yes you had somne outstanding performances, but your team wasnt the best overall.

the only place I know that ranks you by golds is wikipedia. Yahoo, cbs, nbc, espn rank it by total medals. Say 2012 summer China won the most golds with 30 and had a total of 35 medals. Then say the USA had 29 golds with 70 total medals doubling the total, how the fuck does wiki see that as not as good? recockulus

I think the official IOC rankings are sorted by gold medals first. This was the reasoning the Ralph used when posting the 2008 summer games totals on AGS.

If Ralph goes by it, we know its wrong, just like China and their 10 year old gymnists. IOC also got rid of baseball and softball proving they are fucktards.

Yup. Most of Europe does as well. However, there's a substantial anti-American sentiment on Wikipedia when it comes to the US leading in anything.

People hate us because we are the best. Haiti get shook we're there, we come to everyone we're not at war with's aid. Yet they talk shit about us call us the ugly Americans, then call us for help when they can't handle their own problems. Oh yeah and we still do this even though we are in debt up the ass.

I suppose people can use whatever stats they like when bragging.
Some people want to brag about total medal count, others want to brag about gold medal count.
Some people want to brag about playoff appearances, others want to brag about championships won.

People are just going to go by whatever makes their team look better. It's human nature.

Why give 3 medals if only gold counts? Just have 1st place like FCS, D-I Basketball, NFL etc... Olympics have 3 medals so they should all count.

I don't think you can find a reason to say the Bills were better than the Cowboys in the 90's because they went to 4 super bowls in a row. But USA has 2 less gold and 13 more over all medals you can argue that. I say that fight is like the Colts of the 00's (USA) most wins, 1 title and Steelers 00's (Canada) less wins but 2 titles.

There is no "official" olympic ranking. There are only various ways to list the nations. The IOC chooses to list by number of golds.

It does suck that Canada is going to have more golds than us, but we can definitely hang our hats on the total medal count. If we can beat out Germany for total medals in a winter olympics, that means more to me than the gold medal count.

Of course, the Canadians are going to harp on beating us in the gold category. That's the only talking point they can cling to, just like China in Beijing.

On a side note, I would guess that China is going to win the gold and total counts in the summer olympics from here out, possibly for the remainder of the lifetime of everyone reading this board. They are now a world economic power, have the largest population from which to pluck athletes in the world, institute the communist system of identifying athletes as soon as they can walk and forcefully separating them from their families for training, and have demonstrated that they will forge documents, erase old webpages, etc. to conceal detrimental information to help them win at all costs. No one else will be able to compete with that. ABout the only thing that will be able to stop them is the IOC growing a pair, and we know that's never going to happen. :ohno:

Two Americans, including Bode Miller, have already DNF'ed in Men's Slalom. Conditions on the hill are brutal. Of the skiers so far, 19 have not completed the course on the first run. The other two Americans that completed the course are last and second to last.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word official. Doesn't matter since the country with the most medals or most golds doesn't get anything for doing so.

I think Ralph chose to use the IOC method because it put China on top and he was trying to cause trouble.

Women finish .23 behind the Germans in the Team Pursuit semi and will race Poland for the bronze. Hope Japan keeps Germany from getting another gold.

And the hits keep on coming. :|

Canada grabs another gold in the Men's Parallel Giant Slalom and the US women, after leading most of the race, finish more than a second and a half back in the Women's Team Pursuit to take fourth place. Germany wins gold by .02 over Japan after trailing until the last lap.

USA1 has increased it's lead to .45 seconds over Canada1 in the four-man bobsled after three runs. Any medal in this event will give the USA the record for most medals in a winter olympics with 37. A gold here (a good bet) will be the USA's first in the sport since 1948.

The fourth and final run starts shortly.
