HC would have beat EIU by 10+ and likely WSU by 6

I fully understand that the PL is not the best conference in FCS and in most years the PL champ will not beat the CAA champs. However the PL and PL champs can certainly compete in the FCS and do well and beat teams out of the OVC, MEAC, and teams like Weber who were last one's in.

Hell, I'll go out on a limb and say you might be UNI right now. I'd still put money on UNI outright, but if the spread hit more than 4 I wouldn't take it.

More often than not, the PL rep plays well in the playoffs. The PL champ gets arguably the worst playoff draw possible - it seems that every year the PL champ opens at a CAA school - and they almost always play well. The PL may not be the best conference, but it is better than many give credit for.

Yes,
Over the last several years the PL rep has played the eventual NC champ or the NC finalist nearly every year. I understand we get a bad draw because our SOS and GPI and all that is poor, and I can understand that, but few teams would have success playing the CAA champs in the first round every year.

So would I. Teams keep using it, so it must work. But it sure does seem to fail a lot.

...and FYI: 2006 wasn't that long ago unless, as many here suspect, you're only about 8 years old. THAT was the last time UNI was 7-4. MONTANA, on the other hand, hasn't had 4 regular season losses since 1992 when they started the season 1-5 and finished 6-5. THAT, my misguided friend, is the definition of "many years".

76, understand this: Bobby Hauck isn't good at many things, but he is the MASTER of the halftime adjustment. When Montana's offense is clicking, they are almost unstoppable. They obviously WEREN'T clicking in the first half. You saw a clinic in the second half. There's no doubt your coach played not to lose, we were able to stack the box because he became predictable in running the ball to burn clock. It backfired. On the other hand, defensively I didn't see anything much different. Montana just started to execute and take advantage of an average secondary with way-above-average receivers.

It's the reason many of Montana's game scores end up much closer than the actual game was. Bobby clamps down once he's got a lead and trys to get to the end of the game.
