Re: First Round Upsets?
I think EWU has a great shot to go into Texas and knock off SFA. I think McNeese will hold off New Hampshire in a close one. And I honestly believe Elon will give Richmond one hell of a game and could pull the upset. It will be interesting to see what Weber State does against a very good William & Mary team. Long trip to make but they defied the odds and made the field, I think they'll let it all hang out and could make it very interesting. They won on the road last year so it's one to definitely keep an eye on.

First I've heard. I'm used to EWU always being the underdog team who surprises people, and then excuses are made, like the other team must have been overrated, or just got unlucky or some crap like that.danefan wrote:Why are people referring to the potential EWU and New Hampshire wins as upsets?
I think EWU and UNH are favorites despite being on the road.

I also agree. I've got McNeese pulling it out against UNH. I don't think SFA will be ready for Nichols and TJ... we'll win by 10-14.slycat wrote:More bashing the quality of the Southland teams. I've already voiced my opinion on the UM-SDSU game, but if we're going to pull out single games, the Griz didn't exactly look like world beaters against Idaho State.

I've rejected all of your advances here in Missoula so I don't know what makes you think being in Chatty again is gonna do for your chances? I apologize. I have logical and illogical conversations going on all at once on this board. I by no means think UNH is going to win this game by 2 or more TDs. My main point is McNeese beating App State means nothing more than Dog Shit because UNH beat Nova this year.
I think Nova beats UNH by that score if we play them again, FWIW.

SFA might indeed have a hell of a defense, but I argue that your defense hasn't been up against an offense like ours. McNeese is a mostly running team with Pendland in the backfield. I'm sure your D was able to key in on that with your 20th ranked rushing defense. But your pass defense, like ours, is poor, and will be very vulnerable against a QB as efficient and explosive as Nichols. We pass to set up the run... and with Taiwan Jones in the backfield (4.3 speed), the run or screen pass to the outside is deadly... he's a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He had a run of 71 yards for a TD, and a screen pass he took for 80 yards and a score in the same game against NAU. When you have a QB like Nichols putting up these kind of numbers... your D is going to have a tough time stopping him.SFA Fan!!! wrote:Well We Will See If We Are Ready For Them. The last 5 games:
NAU: 22/33 – 408 yds – 5 TDs – 0 INTs
SUU: 28/38 – 380 yds – 4 TDs – 0 INTs
PSU: 21/30 – 413 yds – 4 TDs – 0 INTs
MSU: 26/41 – 327 yds – 4 TDs – 0 INTs
UM: 32/49 – 312 yds – 3 TDs – 0 INTs

Total: 129/191 = 67.5% - 1840 yds – 20 TDs (+1 rushing) – 0 INTs
On the season he's 255/382 for a completion rate of 66.8%, 3369 yards, 30 TDs (+ 2 rushing)/5 INTs, and 306.3 yards per game

Scremin' could you stop saying "you haven't seen an offense like ours"? It makes you look like a total asshole cuz it just isn't true. They have seen offenses like EWU's.
If EWU wins this game it is gonna be due to guys on the D line, and in particular on defense, Mr. J.C. Sherrit. You will score in the fashion that they are accustomed to seeing. The difference will be special teams and a very physical defense.
I do think EWU will make the key stops and get some great field position out of special teams play and win the game.

The best offense they've seen is McNeese's, and EWU's is much different in it's style of attack, and more dangerous in my opinion.

By style of attack and more dangerous do you mean, McNeese tries to score points other than by putting the ball into the endzone?

Re: First Round Upsets?
Yes it is my opinion and stuff. I've seen those kinds of statements from many fans, players, and others associated with programs for many, many years now and one common thread to all of them is that is dumb as shit to say, even if it were true.
Back in 1995 before we played EKU they had a stud linebacker by the name of Tony McCombs that made the comment that the Griz had never seen a defense like theirs and they were gonna shut us down.
48-0
The next week nearly the identical comment from a GSU player.
45-0
You see, even though these guys played the game and had a pretty good handle on what their team was able to accomplish better than any of the fans they were still monumentally wrong.
Your offense is gonna score points, and they would even against teams like Montana that have seen exactly what kind of an offense you have so for that reason alone it is a dumbass statement.
They have played against Nathan Brown, Perilloux, and several other top notch qb's, several other top notch rb's, and several other O Lines that are very similar in talent to EWU's offense.
As I said before if EWU wins this it is because your defense held another great offense in check well enough to let your offense arrive at a superior point total when it's all said and done. It ain't gonna be because you guys have some mystical offense.
