And only Sunbelt teams were missing players and in some cases coaching staffs?

Last three years the CUSA is 13-12 vs the Sunbelt in all games played. CUSA is awful... I hate that the Hens are there. But the Sunbelt is not much better. Losing UTEP next year is a big step up for the CUSA.
Say that on gohens.net :coffee:

Well the CUSA has done far better in the Dec exhibition games. Last 3 seasons SBC vs CUSA regular season/bowls:
2023: 2-1/0-2
2024: 2-2/1-2
2025: 6-3/1-4

Regular season 10-6
Bowls: 2-7

The SBC has been better in the more important, and more apt comparison, the regular season.
JMU Football:
4 Years FBS: 40-11 (.784). Highest winning percentage & least losses of all of G5 2022-2025.
Sun Belt East Champions: 2022, 2023, 2025
Sun Belt Champions: 2025
Top 25 ranked: 2022, 2023, 2025
CFP: 2025

Well, one would need to dig deeper into that. The bowl games could have an asterisk depending on who's playing in the bowl games and if the coaching staff was intact. At this level, though, you don't see that many opt-out of players in bowl games like you do with the bigger conferences. I don't recall many SB or CUSA with significant opt-outs in bowl games. Other thing to keep in mind is who's playing who - are the teams anywhere near equivalent or is a top team from one conference playing a bottom team from another? That's far more likely to happen in the regular season whereas the bowl game, by its nature, is much more likely to be a top team playing another top team. That would seem to give the nod to bowl games being potentially more significant.

4 of the 6 losses regular season came from teams that were 3-5, 3-5, 2-6, 1-7 in conference. Bowl games usually pit teams that are at least in the top half of either conference. So not sure how you say they are more apt comparison.

And just so I'm clear, the SunBelt is better, but by a SLIM margin.

Agreed, Sun Belt is certainly better than CUSA. But also agreed, the gap isn't huge.

What’s funny is we politically disagree as much as we agree. But I’ve had coffee with him, and I have Iowa roots, and he’s just an outstanding dude.

I’m not a Starbucks fan in multiple levels. Their coffee sucks. I like indie shops. My friend used to own one.

I wanted to impress so we met at a truck stop. :) He and his awesome Bernese Mountain dog. (RIP)

You and I would get so wrapped up in small town history and the upper Midwest, we wouldn’t have time for politics.
