The Bison — that’s pronounced Bizon, everyone — aren’t competing against the Power conference heavyweights, they’re competing against the rest of the Group of 6 for the one CFP charity spot.
That immediately changes the calculus of it all.
You’re not banging heads with established programs, you’re playing — ready for this? — Air Force, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Jose State, UNLV, UTEP and Wyoming.
...
Yet that point brings us to the intriguing intersection of culture and cash, the very thing that could dismantle what NDSU has worked so hard to build. Or make it even more dangerous.
Because if Polasek — an assistant for 10 years with the Bison before getting the job in 2024 and winning 26 of 29 games — can mold the valuable NDSU culture with a handful of impact starters from the transfer portal, this thing could get big. Quickly.
Again, you’re not reinventing the wheel, you’re giving the hard-driving 18-wheeler a little more horsepower and a refined suspension with a handful of talented transfers. How do you get those transfers?
Oil money.
If Texas Tech can do it, NDSU sure can. Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere; at least Fargo is across the river from Minnesota.
Also, the middle of nowhere, but you get the point.
Money changes everything. It breathes life into recruiting efforts, and extends the arm of possibility. It can turn a wildly underrated college town into a hotbed of FBS college football.

The oil money would have to come from fans/boosters with oil on their land. I know one guy that gets a generous monthly payment and has been receiving these for 40+ years.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 12:48 pmGood takeUNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 11:25 am NDSU football will thrive in FBS because money talks, tradition walks

Sounds like Sac State is going to join the MAC. Finally threw enough money at them I guess!

It got tougher, but has nothing to do with NDSU, who won‘t be eligible for the next 2 seasons. For next year and the future it got tougher for JMU for 3 reasons/Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 12:48 pmGood takeUNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 11:25 am NDSU football will thrive in FBS because money talks, tradition walks

1.complete starting roster rebuild after Chesney bolted for UCLA (17 lost Portal to P4s (8 to UCLA). I think for that reason will have a 9-4 type season, just like in Chesney’s 1st season after Cignetti bolted for IU.
2.Harder to schedule P4s because with the ACC going to 9 conference games, now all 4 P4 conferences have gone to 9 conference games. Next season Pussies at VA Tech dropped their game against JMU under the excuse of ACC going from 8 to 9 conference games. That doesn’t fly because. VT kept their games ODU and FCS VMI.
VT game replaced by @ SDSU, one of the top Mtn West teams from last season. Even so, next season JMU would have to run the table at 13-0 to have a chance at the G5 spot. Like I said, I expect more like a 9-4 type season.
3.The NIL/Portal really hurt the SBC. 2022
Marshall won @ #8 Notre Dame
App St won @ #6 TX A&M
GSU won @ Nebraska
JMU won @ UVA
That SBC has trended down since then, and is a shell of its former self.

Re: NDSU joins the MWC
I know NDSU, at least pre Portal era, had a history of developing their talent from the HS ranks and didn‘t use much in the way of transfers. That being said, I wouldn‘t be surprised if they did very well in the new Mtn West right off the bat.
-Sounds like NDSU, despite the financial hit of the move up, will have more $$$ than the other Mtn West.
-The new Mtn West clearly isn‘t as strong as the old Mtn West. I would put it on par with the current SBC, maybe sleighly ahead, we’ll see.
G5:
Top 2: AAC & New PAC 12/old Mtn West
Middle 2: New Mtn West & SBC.
Bottom 2: CUSA & MAC

Re: NDSU joins the MWC
lol that makes about as much sense as N IL to the Mtn West and the West Coast former PAC to the Big 10.
Course none are as tarded as Cal and Stanford to the ACC. Conference realignment the last couple years has just gone full retard..

That was more than UMask to the MACtion for all sports, not just in football?
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

Last three years the CUSA is 13-12 vs the Sunbelt in all games played. CUSA is awful... I hate that the Hens are there. But the Sunbelt is not much better. Losing UTEP next year is a big step up for the CUSA.
