How is/was CA ahead of the game with social distancing? They went into it on March 19th - while earlier than some states, they weren't the first. And they still get opened a slew of essential businesses like other states. Did they do something fundamentally different? Wasn't sure by what you meant by ahead of the game.kalm wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 5:39 pmYou do realize that part of that is California being ahead of the game with social distancing/stay at home right? You should be happy with your state. Us in WA are the same with relaxing restrictions this week.SDHornet wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 5:17 pm
Except when you compare Chinese Flu deaths in CA to other things, it gets even more laughable, here are the top 10 in 2017 per the CDC:
CA Leading Causes of Death, 2017 Deaths
1. Heart Disease 62,797
2. Cancer 59,516
3. Stroke 16,355
4. Alzheimer’s Disease 16,238
5. Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases 13,881
6. Accidents 13,840
7. Diabetes 9,595
8. Influenza/Pneumonia 6,340
9. Hypertension 5,596
10. Chronic Liver Disease/Cirrhosis 5,325
Tack on another 133k abortion deaths in 2017 and the idea of people freaking out and wanting a lock down for less than 2k dead is completely fucking ridiculous.

New Zealand has absolutely kicked it’s ass so far.
That gets us back to normal sooner.
As for New Zealand, sure, again, like Taiwan, we are proving that isolated, island nations with limited access points into the country that are easily turned off (and did turn them off) are far better at self-isolating than are much larger and much more interconnected countries. I think Taiwan's case is even more impressive as they have significantly greater population density than anywhere in New Zealand. NZ is basically like most rural sections in the US, which coincidentally have significantly low numbers of COVID cases and deaths, just like in NZ.
