Your entire post crushed it 88, but I particularly liked the part about student loans. It's a hot button for me. I went to a school my parents could afford. I saved a ton of money so I wouldn't have to take out or bury my kids with student loans. In my line of work I get to see folks debts and when I see somebody with $200,000 in student loans working a regular job (meaning they didn't do med school) my first thought is how irresponsible of that person. It drives me crazy that people think they are entitled to go to any school they want. :ohno:
No doubt. None the less, the bubble is there and won’t it seriously effect the greater economy including lending for decades?

I just agree with 88 that we can't reward bad behavior and punish those of us that did it the right way. I guess I'm just not into socialism. ;)

Is the most troubling debt caused by student loans or a refusal to live within their means?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/18/student ... -debt.html
The biggest source of debt? Credit card bills. And that’s a “troubling” trend, Chantel Bonneau, a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual, tells CNBC Make It.

“One issue that a lot of millennials have is that they have not wanted to sacrifice their lifestyle, even though they have student loans or lower incomes,” Bonneau says. “That has left us in this spot where they’ve accumulated a significant amount of credit card debt.”

Didn’t need to open the Beto clip as I knew what he said.

You’ve had ample opportunity to support the 4 or 5 I requested.

88.2 was accepted to WPI and it was his #1 choice by a yuge amount but their financial aid package was horrible. He would have had to borrow about $40k per year (out of a total cost of around $70k/year) to go there. He got accepted to a number of other schools that didn't excite him nearly as much but were much more affordable. I told him that it was his decision but that I wasn't doing my job as a parent if I didn't tell him that taking on that much debt was a bad idea. I gave him an estimate on how much his monthly payments would be for each year's loans and then added them together so he would know how much he would really be paying per month after he graduated. He's a comp sci major so he should have a good salary upon graduating but the cost of the student loans would have really taken a bite out of his options for apartments, cars, entertainment and savings. He's at the Illinois Institute of Technology (also with a total cost of close to $70k/year) and should graduate with about $30k total in debt (all federal loans) and a comparable salary.

It is interesting how the left demonizes corporate socialism and the right demonizes personal socialism.

Can we tie student loan debt forgiveness to vasectomies and hysterectomies? Taking out $100k+ in loans for a basket weaving degree isn't very smart and science says that the strongest and smartest should survive and procreate. Isn't it anti-science to let people who did this have children? And a side benefit would be the long-term reduction in population and carbon footprint as the kids that were never conceived won't have children. It's a win/win! :-P
