No doubt. None the less, the bubble is there and won’t it seriously effect the greater economy including lending for decades?89Hen wrote:Your entire post crushed it 88, but I particularly liked the part about student loans. In my line of work I get to see folks debts and when I see somebody with $200,000 in student loans working a regular job (meaning they didn't do med school) my first thought is how irresponsible of that person. It drives me crazy that people think they are entitled to go to any school they want.UNI88 wrote:- Student debt – the cost of an education ballooned when the federal government got so involved in student loans. You think more government involvement is going to fix the problem? Schools saw that there was a pile of money available and they took it and put it toward bigger administrative staffs and other things that did little to improve the quality of education they provided. Students made very poor decisions and took out bigger loans than they should have to pursue a degree. Question – if we forgive the debt of those that were fiscally irresponsible, what do we do for those that were fiscally responsible? Do we reward poor decision-making and essentially punish good decision-making?

Is the most troubling debt caused by student loans or a refusal to live within their means?
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/18/student ... -debt.html
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/18/student ... -debt.html
The biggest source of debt? Credit card bills. And that’s a “troubling” trend, Chantel Bonneau, a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual, tells CNBC Make It.
“One issue that a lot of millennials have is that they have not wanted to sacrifice their lifestyle, even though they have student loans or lower incomes,” Bonneau says. “That has left us in this spot where they’ve accumulated a significant amount of credit card debt.”

Re: Trump announces Brett Kavanaugh as his 2nd SCOTUS nominee.
88.2 was accepted to WPI and it was his #1 choice by a yuge amount but their financial aid package was horrible. He would have had to borrow about $40k per year (out of a total cost of around $70k/year) to go there. He got accepted to a number of other schools that didn't excite him nearly as much but were much more affordable. I told him that it was his decision but that I wasn't doing my job as a parent if I didn't tell him that taking on that much debt was a bad idea. I gave him an estimate on how much his monthly payments would be for each year's loans and then added them together so he would know how much he would really be paying per month after he graduated. He's a comp sci major so he should have a good salary upon graduating but the cost of the student loans would have really taken a bite out of his options for apartments, cars, entertainment and savings. He's at the Illinois Institute of Technology (also with a total cost of close to $70k/year) and should graduate with about $30k total in debt (all federal loans) and a comparable salary.89Hen wrote:Your entire post crushed it 88, but I particularly liked the part about student loans. Can we tie student loan debt forgiveness to vasectomies and hysterectomies? Taking out $100k+ in loans for a basket weaving degree isn't very smart and science says that the strongest and smartest should survive and procreate. Isn't it anti-science to let people who did this have children? And a side benefit would be the long-term reduction in population and carbon footprint as the kids that were never conceived won't have children. It's a win/win!
