I don’t know if this guy is a liberal or a conservative, but he decided to run for a Seattle City Council seat...

Well, he was alleged to have been spotted at a “conservative” event, and it apparently went down hill from there...
I had hoped that this would be a campaign of ideas, but I quickly discovered that the activists in this city have no interest in ideas. Since the campaign launch, they have harassed and threatened my family nonstop. I was prepared to take the heat, but unfortunately, they have focused their hatred on my wife and children. They’ve made vile racist attacks against my wife, attempted to get her fired from Microsoft, and threatened sexual violence. They have even posted hateful messages to my 8-year-old son’s school Facebook page. I know that as the race progresses, the activists will ratchet up their hate-machine and these attacks will intensify significantly.”
So, the tolerant left drove him to drop out of the race...

Dude,
When they stop protesting - that's the time to get worried
as long as they're out there loudly being all self righteous things are as they should be

Nice graph felchy, but neither it nor the accompanying opinion piece tell the story.

Other than at the high end places, there is virtually no waitstaff at any restaurant in Seattle. Its mostly counter/self service with only a skeleton crew behind the counter. It's just that Seattle has A LOT of restaurants. It's expensive and what little service there is, its extremely slow.

Baldy,
You're not exactly "telling the story" either...

Seattle has the number one economy in the United States
Seattle has a vibrant busy restaurant economy for a major city
rated only below San Francisco and Manhattan

I know you went to a convention and waited in line to eat
and that doesn't define the "the story" either

I went to a convention in Denver and waited in line to eat everyday
Therefore Denver has a fucked restaurant economy

Well I sure as hell can't afford a house in Seattle
between me and my girlfriends combined salary we could have made it happen
but it's such a major fuck job we decided to move out in the woods 15 miles away

:ohno:

There are very few houses "in Seattle"
There are about a million and a half condo's and apartments
which you could afford (barely)

We were paying $3500 for rent in Redmond

You can’t find a free parking space in Spokane ffs.

This thread....

Stayed downtown last spring and my nephew manages a hotel there. Never had trouble finding parking for a few bucks and whattaya know? Actually had servers at every place we went.

Our niece from and her husband (both from rural Eastern Washington) just sold their house in Kent and moved downtown to be close to work. I worry about them dodging all the indigents and mindless liberal hippies...

But yeah...Seattle is practically a ghost town.

Nobody eats there anymore...it’s way too busy.

So what difference does it make where Seattle's economy ranks (or anybody else's, for that matter) if only the wealthy can afford to live there?

better to live out in the sticks and just visit and marvel at how economicaliset the place is

Pay better attention next time. I didn't say Seattle has a fucked restaurant economy. To me it was very vibrant given the circumstances and for the most part, the food was excellent...just way over priced.
Short on time, I had to run into the Subway on Lenora for a quick bite. A "$5 foot long" was actually $16.

That's "the story".

Indeed,
I have a love hate relationship with Seattle
It's one of the great cities to "do stuff" in - but as you pointed out - there are 75,000 millionaires

American cities in general have become too expensive
Portland and San Diego used to be cheap - now they're almost as bad as San Francisco and Seattle

Charleston regularly gets listed as one of those “best places to live” by death-knell publications like Conde Nast

It was nice in the 80s and 90s when you could still plop down within 20 minutes of the city for less than 200k

The key to affordable housing these days (outside of being wealthy) is to retire and move out to the hinterlands somewhere. There aren’t many other options

Given that I consider 99.9% of all people to be cunts (especially in cities) that’s going to be an easy proposition for me

Yeah...
We're going to have a little dump in Palm Springs and a little dump in Bend Oregon
We'll end up selling this place here in the Seattle area never to return

we're also going to build (her brother is a builder) a house outside of Pittsburgh on her moms farm
We wanted a place in North Carolina too... (still working on that) there's a ton of great little dumps there
