Eh, I agree that it's disconcerting that she doesn't appear to have a lot of economic know-how and is woefully inexperienced in that regard (that's almost the definition of socialism when you think about it), but I don't mind the brashness and the willingness to voice an opinion and push back against the system. And she's right, she's there for 2 years to do a job and get things done. More politicians should have her focus on getting things done rather than just holding power.
Will you get off the goddam center stripe and take a position? I don’t want ignorant legislators “pushing back” and “getting things done.” Stalin got things done. ****, Gannon, you call yourself a historian? :ohno:
Well, I think it's a pretty big leap from a minor Congresswoman to Stalin, but I defer to you since you're old enough to actually remember Papa Joe.

As for ignorant legislators, well, we have many of them anyway. In this case, at least it's young blood. I'm tired of seeing 70 and 80 and even 90 year olds in the top jobs of government. Heck, even the Catholic Church has a mandatory retirement age for most of their leadership. If you're 80 years old and have been in office for half of that time, you should quit. Heck, if you're over 70 years old you should think about quitting anyway. Too many old folks hanging on. With all the perks of having power in Washington it's no wonder, but I'd rather have young firebrands coming in shaking things up, even if they're slightly on the bad side of the ignorance meter. I'm optimistically hoping these youngin's are in it for the short term and we won't be complaining about them hanging around for 40 years.

I posted some numbers on that before but I will do it again. It was the biggest net gain for Democrats in a House Election since 1974. 1974 is notable because that election came a few months after Nixon resigned from office after Watergate in August of that year.

It was the best year for Democrats in terms of net gain in House seats for a long time.

Also, let's face it, this completely changes things. Trump had a House that was running interference for him. It had no interest in actually engaging in oversight or investigating what is undoubtably a very fertile background for investigation. It was even attacking Federal Law Enforcement entities trying to get at the truth. That's completely changed now.
Between this and that "speech" His Verbal Flatulence the POTUS gave in front of their Wall of Honor... :ohno:

Thanks to the most rigged election outside of Russia.

Incorrect. The GOP won multiple elections in Arizona fair and square. But we didn't have a Sec of State who was running for Governor who purged millions of voters from the rolls, closed hundreds of polling places in minority areas, discarded thousands of new voter registrations, forgot to send voting booths to minority areas, etc.

Open your eyes to the reality of what the GOP is doing to attack democracy in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, etc. it's revolting and should concern all Americans.

Thank you for showing your ignorance John.
"Millions of voters were purged."
The facts are 1.5 million registrations were purged because people died, moved, haven't voted in five consecutive elections, convicted of a felony, etc, etc, etc.
Was grandma's vote suppressed even though she's been dead for 20 years, or because Uncle Earl moved to Kalamazoo? :dunce: :silly:

"Closed hundreds of polling places in minority areas."
Another often repeated lie. The facts are that local election officials are the ONLY ones who can decide where and how many polling places there will be, and the ONLY ones who can close and consolidate polling places. The Secretary of State's office has absolutely no say so in those decisions...none.

"Discarded thousands of new voter registrations."
Why are you lying again, John? 47,000 registrations were put on "HOLD" because they were unable to verify their identity, there were discrepancies in their information, etc. The only thing these people had to do to vote with a normal ballot on election day was to show up at the polling place and show proper ID.

"Forgot to send voting booths to minority areas, etc."
Lies and more lies. Due to a frivolous lawsuit filed by the Donks, 700 voting machines have been locked up in a state warehouse sequestered because of a court order.

Georgia has 22 days of early voting and provides online voter registration. If we are trying to suppress the vote, we're not doing a very good job.

You're making yourself look more ignorant than usual. :ohno:

No. This is kind of like saying that the Atlanta Braves won more games in 2018 than they'd won in 44 years.

There's also the popular vote thing. It wasn't all that remarkable by Democrat Standards. But the Democrats had a bigger popular vote edge in the 2018 House elections than the Republicans EVER had in my lifetime. The high water mark for the Republican popular vote margin in my lifetime was 7.1 percentage points in 1994. Contract with America and all. The Democrats had a 7.6 percentage point edge this time.

FYI, the Democrat performance in terms of popular vote edge was 13th best among the 31 House elections of my 1957-Present lifetime. 1 through 12 were all also Democrat edges. Best ever was a 16.8 percentage point edge by Democrats in 1974. That Nixon Watergate thing again.

Anyway, again: It was not a small thing by historical standards. It was a very strong performance by the Democrats.

Just try to remember it the next time you complain about Democrats being oversampled in national polls.

RCP average before the election: +7.3 Democrats
Current count: +7.7 Democrats

1. Term limits
2. Civics and economics literacy tests for legislators
3. Simple majority vote for cloture on all topics
4. Single-subject legislation (no extraneous riders)

Geesh.

Here's what I want to see.
Number of red seats at risk.
Number of blue seats at risk.
Number of red seats won.
Number of blue seats won.

Let's look at that data over the last few decades.
That is the only (macro)data that will provide a decent measure.

Telling me that you scored 10 points in a basketball game is nice, but how many shots did you take?

I want to see the underlying stats, and I'm not talking about deep ones. Only the ones just below the surface.
I'll be willing to admit it was a Blue Wave if the stats at that level prove it.
I'm just saying that calling it a Blue Wave, or not a Blue Wave, is BS without the support of reasonable stats.

I agree but I think it's pretty clear that it was a blue wave overall. How big of a wave depends on the context. Did they flip more, less or about the same number of seats they expected? How big was the Republican majority compared to prior "waves"? If they flipped significantly fewer seats than the wave wasn't as successful as expected. If the Republicans had a historically large majority going into the election then they had more seats at risk. Context matters and an objective, unbiased, ethical researcher would provide that context.

Since you have that source, tell us how many Republicans ran with no Democrat opposition. Also, if there is a situation where one Party runs without opposition, that means that Party is dominant in that district.

Look, the country just repudiated Trump and the Republicans. If you can't see that you are in denial. Things could turn around before 2020. But what just happened is what just happened. If you don't think it was a clear statement that the majority of the People in the country are unhappy with Trump and the Republicans right now you are kidding yourself.

The aggregate overall popular vote in non national elections is meaningless. You are beating a flawed argument to death

It was an overall victory for the Dems but using the popular vote to illustrate it is incorrect
