Trump was being vilified more by Republicans 2 and a half years ago
than by any Democrat and we were told NOBODY wanted him in office

Even down to his own administration calling him an idiot in public

With a couple of notable (and crucial) exceptions

insofar as Hitler was a populist then the parallels hold true... and the comparison can be applied to numerous Presidents we have had before

But evoking Hitler is dumb because people don't do it to accuse Trump of being a populist - they do it to compare him to an antisemitic mass murderer

If we want to make a more accurate comparison the meme should be an Italian saying Americans no longer ask him how Silvio Berlusconi could happen

Agreed. I've always said that Trump is very much like a Berlusconi - more attached to his personality than to any ideological leanings. People who compare Trump to Hitler tend to be people who don't have a good understanding of history and just want to find something awful to say about Trump because they just don't like him. No matter how you try to craft it they are not even remotely the same. It is possible to hate and despise Trump without having to resort to the idea that he's a Nazi and the second coming of Hitler. No matter how many memes try to make it so, Trump is not anything like Hitler.

Actually Mao Zedong may be a better example since he is looked to as the father of the communist party in China and Obama was/is looked up to as the savior of the Democratic party.

Firstly: Trump pissed off Conservatives considerably more than Liberals 2.5 yrs ago
That's a HUGE measure of distinction Republicans are working very hard to whitewash right now
and serves to illuminate the original POINT of this observation
