Kim tried to play Trump, but he overplayed his hand.
I know people keep bringing up the test site, but really, what did they have to keep testing (by means of actual explosions)? They clearly know and are capable of making bombs, so now the issue is making missiles that are effective enough to reach where they want to reach and putting the nuclear weapons in the warhead. They're past the "blowing up" stage, just as we were when we stopped blasting the crap out of the Bikini Atolls. They've probably been past this stage for awhile, but blowing something up was always a way to get into the newspapers when they wanted the media coverage. It isn't that simple - setting off a nuclear chain reaction is a process that requires the most exacting tolerances any human scientific process has ever required. A nuclear bomb with no size constraints is relatively easy to build.
