In theory. It'll be $50k with a few options and the market adjustments that will get slapped on it.
Available for preorder at the end of next month.

While Googling to try to see what the charge range of the entry level car will be I came across an article indicating that "the company is hemorrhaging money." Goes on to say:
Tesla lost $889 million last year -- a record -- partially due to new model development costs and partially due to construction costs associated with its Nevada-based battery Gigafactory. Tesla has lost money for each of the last eight years. As of late, shareholders have been punishing the company's stock price, which closed at $150.43 Thursday, up nearly 5 percent but well off its 52-week high of $286.65 in July.
Another thing I learned: When their sales cross a certain threshold buyers will no longer get a tax credit when they buy a Tesla; and they are close to crossing that threshold.

They may be in trouble. We'll see.

Meanwhile let me know when somebody produces an electric vehicle that will go something like 1500 miles on a single charge when you're driving at normal highway speeds, etc. and I'll definitely be interested. But this stuff of going a couple of hundred miles on a charge just wouldn't fit for me.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

I know some people who will be lining up for this car so they can talk about how green and ahead of the curve they are for charging their cars on the coal-fired power grid. It'll be like the hybrid cars were circa 2005 all over again.

$1.25 gas is going to make it very hard to justify.

The timing of the news release is very convenient considering how the stock price has been tanking.....

Despite the above detractors, I am very interested in this car. I do worry about jumping in on a year one model though, so I'll probably wait and see. My round trip to my metro station is 174 miles, so the Tesla has that range covered theoretically. I know a guy with a Nissan Leaf though, and the range is impacted by cold temperatures, wind, accessory usage, and driving like Flaggy. Getting stranded on Eastern Shore MD would suck da balls. I'm gonna wait and follow the Model 3 forums and see when to pull the trigger. Another help would be if they built a supercharging station in Annapolis. Right now, the closest three to me are Salisbury MD, Newark DE, and Bethesda MD, and none are on my route in case I run low.

how about 350-450 miles like most gas powered cars? That would do it for me. :thumb:

Plus, President Sanders will probably keep the tax credit available.

Maybe but probably not good enough to make me bite. You might start off with a 450 mile range when fully charged but then when you have to stop at a supercharging station it takes 40 minutes to charge up to 80% and an hour and 15 minutes to charge up to 100%. And even though Tesla has done a good job of increasing the number of super charging stations there still aren't nearly as many as there are gas stations.

Of course for me an electric vehicle wont' be an option anyway until someone produces an electric pickup truck.

Exaxtly. I could see with $5.00 gas. But with gas prices the way they are now and likely will be for at least the next several years, why would people buy this car at 90k?

Hyperbole much?

Gas wasn't $5 even under the worst days of Bush/Cheney and their Great Recession. And the Tesla 3 is $35k, not $90k. Closer to upper $20k's after the tax breaks.

I like the thought of zero fuel costs and contributing less to oil profits. Call me crazy. Why would you not want this American business to succeed?

Neither Tesla nor CR brought it up, so no.

You can probably go 452.8 miles in an H2 if you go 25 mph too.
I can get over 600 miles in my GL350 Deisel. Every tank.

Why do you think gas prices will be "the way they are now..and for the next several years"?
Record production + cheaper extraction + slowdown in China's growth? For whatever reasons the so called experts seem to think we will have low prices for years..

No kidding. Gas was at its record peak BEFORE the Bush/Obama Great recession. During the Great Recession it plummeted..I just threw $5 out there. Use $4 if you will.

"..As Bloomberg explains, the federal credit is only applied to the first 200,000 sales, and at the current rate of sales, Tesla might hit that number in mid-2018. Complicating matters further, the first Model 3 models off the assembly line will likely be Signature Series models priced at least twice as high as the base model, soaking up even more incentives."

Why would you not want this American business to succeed?
I don't mind it succeeding. Also I think that as time goes on the technology will get better and better. I think that some day it will get to the point where an all electric vehicle can be a practical alternative to an internal combustion vehicle for just about everybody. I just don't think we're there yet.

Also in principle I don't think government should be subsidizing electric vehicle makers in order to give them a competitive advantage. But they subsidize lots of things. Like they subsidized the US internal combustion vehicle manufacturers too on several occasions. Bailed them out. it is what it is.
