Say I kill a guy...if I go to confession, I get absolved? Does killing an ant and killing the pope get the same treatment in confession?

It's been a long time but my recollection is that you're supposed to try to resolve to "sin no more." If you're engaged in homosexual behavior the idea is you're supposed to try not to do it again. I'm pretty sure that Catholic theology would say that if what you're doing is engaging in homosexual behavior and going to confession once a week with the intention of engaging in homosexual behavior again you're going to Hell.

The idea is that you recognize that what you're doing is wrong and really want to try not to do it again.

What I don't accept is the crap about homosexuality not being a disorder. If you're truly homosexual, you're sick.

So the Pope sustains a system where women are psychologically/emotionally damaged and publicly shamed for having abortions...and then forgives the horrendous problem he helps create...after the damage is done? (The kicker being that he reverts to the old model after this short "forgiveness" period.)

The women are having their own progeny killed. It's a disgusting thing to do.This thing where we're supposed to have sympathy for them and act like they should be coddled is ridiculous. It's pretty much the lowest of the low in terms of behavior. When a woman has an abortion she's doing an incredibly evil thing. It is what it is.
