BTW, if you read the Scripture with the same, the Second Coming does not bring the destruction of the world, but rather a time when the enemies of God are destroyed, and the world lives in peace under the rule of God.

The Pope keeps saying, in word and deed, it's time to be prepared. If you have lived with a grave sin, mercy and forgiveness will be freely given to those who ask.

And yes, Cleets, it's God who forgives. But the Pope is a messenger saying God's forgiveness is freely given,
What does "freely given" mean? I feel like there might be some strings attached....

This whole - I talked to God and he forgives you - thing is hilarious

:coffee:
I don't care much for the hierarchy either, but the hierarchy isn't in place to allow humans to pretend to be closer to God than others. That's just not correct. Sure, some humans can use it as a vehicle to do just that, but at it's bare principles, that's not what it's there for.

Baloney.

The pope is fixing the errors of the church by adopting secular humanist principles.

He inherited the keys to a rusted out, dilapidated '61 Vette and he's gonna make it a beauty.

This pope will go down in history as the greatest person who ever lived, if he can continue this trajectory.

Nope. Church is for suckers. Bet Francis would privately agree.

Organized religion is an abomination and has disgraced Jesus Christ.

I am not getting the big deal about this. I was raised in a Catholic family and went to Catholic schools through about half the 10th grade. The idea has always been that you can be forgiven for anything. You go to confession and the Priest listens. You're absolved. I'm not seeing why there was a need for a Pope to grant "permission" for priests to do that for one particular sin. This makes no sense at all.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

It's a PR move - an attempt to catch up, morally and ethically, with the rest of the world. He's made several such moves during his tenure.

He's brilliant and as fearless as a pope can be.

So if you are gay, you can just go once a week and be absolved. cool. Why don't you accept gay folks? They are absolved every week and have the same clean slate as you :dunce:

Seems dumb to me.

Say I kill a guy...if I go to confession, I get absolved? Does killing an ant and killing the pope get the same treatment in confession?

Well, like Joe said you have mean it. Pope Francis has already welcomed gays into the flock. I would consider that a blanket pass, hence no need to be forgiven, even though the church officially frowns upon it. Reason trumps nonsense.

Joe, can I get a ruling on this?

As far as I see it. The stance is love the person hate the sin. No different between someone having sex outside of marriage.
