Great job Obama!!!

Lets ignore real problems and waste time and monies by renaming a fucking mountain. :dunce:

The Obama administration will change the name of North America's tallest mountain peak from Mount McKinley to Denali, the White House said Sunday, a major symbolic gesture to Alaska Natives on the eve of President Barack Obama's historic visit to Alaska.

Everybody who lives in Alaska has been calling it Denali for 50 years...
And the state representatives wanted changed decades ago

So please explain your point..?

Denali is fine - traditionalist.

At least he didn't name it Mt Obama

No need to trade the name of one insignificant president for another

Still waiting for them to change Superior back to Gichigami, as referred to by Lightfoot and Longfellow.

O'er the water pointing westward,
To the purple clouds of sunset.

What is hilarious about this whole thing is some nobody politician from Ohio is "outraged"
outraged I tell you !!!

That McKinley our fierce leader and most beloved former President (who..?)
is being disgraced by the Obama administration in this insane power grab and constitutional over reach

I'm being serious, you can't make this sh!t up

All the while:
The State of Alaska - where the Mountain actually resides - is thrilled

all that being said-

theres was a bill in congress to do just this- change the name to Denali (and it may well have passed - the NPS had already stated it was not in opposition)

but The One wanted a cheap win prior to his AK trip so he dispensed with pesky procedure and used his pen again

that might be why some pol in ohio is pissed?

(or maybe they think McKinley was dandy)

How little you know.

Your blind hatred of Obama is making you look foolish.

they have been trying to change the name for decades. Alaska wants it. Everytime a bill is introduced, Ohio throws a fit. Guess where the speaker of the House is from ? Ohio. Boenher will never allow the bill to be voted on.

Anyone that gives a crap about the mountain already calls it Denali.

The outrage is hilarious.

This ^ is exactly whats wrong with American Politics
The State of Alaska holds a great distaste for Obama - they'll be the first to tell you
I was just up there and have a few good friends up there - they are NOT Obama fans

But they want Denali to be called Denali (as it has been since forever)
They couldn't a give a flying f* about McKinley from Ohio 100 years ago

The state in general is happy with Obama making it happen
When using the proper rout for decades has not worked

First the Government bailout of GM.

Now he's naming mountains after their popular upscale GMC trimline. Commercialism at its worst. :ohno:

blind hatred?

not at all

I have no issue with the change - in fact I like it

but Id think there would be more significant things for Mr Executive Fiat to pull his pen o' change out for than something like changing the name of a mountain you know.....

other than for a cheap political gesture

that will be the Obama legacy. his administration has numbed us all to the executive decree to the point that he can do it with the flick of the wrist and nary a thought

that power will one day pass to a republican and I wonder how youll feel about it? maybe someone like Trump with that pen in his hand?

Agreed. When something like this gets done solely because Obama is not liked in Alaska so he uses his authority to try and win a few friends right before his trip. I don't give a rats ass about the name or the 30 minutes he took doing it. However it hightlights the ridiculousness of "politics as usual". :coffee:

LOL - read up on the history of the name, how the State of Alaska's been trying to get this changed since shortly after they became a state, and how a Congressman from Ohio has used a procedural move to block it since.

And as far as politics - was he supposed to announce it during a trip to Delawhere? This time of announcement/timing happens all the time. From all Presidents. Just funny to see the blind sheeple hating on anything Obama does.

REPUBLICAN Senator Murowski personally asked Obama to get this done - and he did. It means a lot to the people of Alaska. They still hate Obama, this doesn't change that one bit, but they are happy with the change

:ohno: I do miss the old fart

And you're far too logical to argue with successfully for very long...
which really ruins the process - plus I need more hyperbole and unsubstantiated conjecture
and you are sadly limited in those critical areas

It's probably not going to work for us - long term - you're more of a fling really
Where as T-man and I had a 10 year committed relationship (that takes dedication)
