Here we go again

Post by JohnStOnge »

The focus on guns. Like the female reporter's father coming on the Kelly File and saying that his life's mission is going to be to keep crazy people from getting guns.

The thing is this: If that guy really wanted to kill his daughter it's quite possible that not being able to get a gun would not have stopped him. Like within the past few weeks there was a guy near where I lived to killed his estranged wife with a baseball bat.

A gun is a tool. It's an effective tool. But focusing on the tool is not addressing the problem.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Even if mental health screenings were required for a gun purchase some will slip through the cracks, and you will deter people from seeking mental health care when a simple neurosis means that you are deemed a potential psychotic killer.

You could keep Jared Loughner types who are completely detached from reality from buying a gun, but for the most part it's folly to think you can tell who is and isn't dangerous.

Here's an idea, maybe this guy wouldn't have done what he did if he wasn't told he was a special snowflake and that himself much more than his color would determine his life successes.

A grieving father within 12-15 hrs of his daughter's murder can be given a pass I think.

What riles me is the pols like Hildabeast, who whenever there is a shooting in the national headlines, never fail to try to exploit it for political gain with calls for more "gun control" before the bodies are even cold. :ohno:

So what is the problem, and how should we address it?

Please don't say "black people" and "kill them all".

I don't know what the problem is but we're not going to identify it by focusing on the tool.

Here's the thing on the Father:

Yes, I understand he's grieving. But this happens all the time. Somebody suffers a loss like this and they feel like they have to do something in order to make their lost loved one's life meaningful. So they immediately start pushing for laws/regulations.

It's why we have, for example, MADD making things extreme on the DUI front. This country is supposed to be about Liberty. It's not supposed to be about controlling the overwhelming majority of people who are never going to cause any problem in order to prevent problems being caused by a small percentage of the population. And it's not supposed to be about making public health and safety the prime directive.

John, I will defend to the death your American-Cajun right to eat nutria. Even though I can't find part of the Bill of Rights to back it up.
