Companies are running lean - maybe you heard about all the unemployed people. That's bound to push profits up.

Surely this is the end of western civilization as we know it.
We must declare an emergency and appoint Obama to a third term or bring in trumps expertise with respect to bankruptcy.

Meh, ride it out. Unless you're REALLY good at day trading, the stock market is a game of patience (as if most of you don't know this already
).

No. I have been in and out like a squirrel grabbing a nut for the last 8 or 9 months thinking that this could happen. Once the monetary easing stopped, and the market no longer had artificial supports, this was bound to happen. And yes, this is Obama's fault. The slowest economic recovery in history is the result of his policies. The QE lasted way longer than it should have and the market had become dependent on it. So many companies were buying back stock and artificially inflating their earnings in the process.Grizalltheway wrote:You gonna have to go back to work?CAA Flagship wrote:![]()

Thankfully, I was not as heavily invested as I could have been, although I did take a 10% haircut on Rite Aid that I bought earlier this week.

I wish I can afford more right now, but I'm investing another ~$1000 in Starbucks next week. I've been riding that gravy train for a while now and I find no reason SBUX won't hit $100 in the next 5-10 years, especially with how it's expanding in the US and overseas (and the projected global demand for coffee to rise).CAA Flagship wrote:But now I will see how the market reacts next week as there are many great buying opportunities out there.

Trip, while Starbucks has been a great stock, and will likely continue to be for a while, timing this better can be more profitable. SBUX is still trading at 30x earnings meaning it could drop more in the near term to get to a better PE ration in the mid-20's.∞∞∞ wrote:I wish I can afford more right now, but I'm investing another ~$1000 in Starbucks next week. Look at a 5yr chart of SBUX and focus on the tremendous growth of the last year.
http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=SBUX+Interactive#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;{%22showSma%22:true,%22smaColors%22:%22#cc0000%22,%22smaPeriods%22:%22200%22,%22smaWidths%22:%221%22,%22smaGhosting%22:%220%22,%22range%22:%225y%22,%22allowChartStacking%22:true}
Then look at their earnings over the last 4 quarters: 0.37, 0.40, 0.33, 0.42. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=SBUX+Analyst+Estimates" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not sure that earnings performance matches that rise in the stock price.
After the previous two major run-ups, the stock price had a 12 month pause.
It hit $28 in April '12 after running up from $5. It was still at $28 in March '13.
It hit $40 in October '13 after running up from $23. It was still at $40 in October '14.
Recently it hit a high of $57 after running up from $36. Based on previous trends, you may want to put your money to work somewhere else for a while, and look to load up on SBUX after the 1st of the year, unless you see it hit $45 or so sooner.
