Pwns wrote:The bigger issue here is how slowly the medical community changes their practice with new research and findings from the scientific community. Example: There's no evidence that mammograms improve cancer mortality, yet many practices still persist with it. It's not the drug companies that choose which prescription patients will get. I would bet you most doctors have even glanced at literature on the rates of side effects from various analgesics and pain-killers.

Of course these people are obviously very much opposed to marijuana legalization, but luckily they don't have to invest too much to fight that with police unions and private prison operators helping them out.
You make it appear as if there's a relevant distinction between the "medical community" and the "scientific community." In reality they're both part of the same cartel: allopathic corporate medicine. Take mammography as an example: medical doctors or other people financially linked to the conventional cancer business conduct most "scientific" research, producing biased corporate-crafted pro-mammogram studies which then get published in medical journals owned by the orthodox medical business (sources: "Mammography Screening: Truth, Lies and Controversy" by Peter Gotzsche and "The Mammogram Myth" by Rolf Hefti - see synopsis at Hardly-known Breast Cancer Facts: The Real Truth about Mammograms ).

Because the allopathic medical cartel produces and mandates and controls the official narrative on breast cancer screening/mammography at every angle, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why "many practices still persist" such as mammography.

Agreed with Chiz, good post. To add to the corporate medicine aspect, you should have seen the doctors expression when told the new pap smear guidelines dictated skipping a pap for three years when certain patients got negative results. This was ACOG (American College of OBs & Gynos) that was recommending the guidelines as well.

The doctors didn't give one shit ACOG made the recommendation and only cared they would lose money on performing paps once a year, even though women were still encouraged to get the yearly visit.

Can you guess what happened? That's right, they kept on giving paps every year!

Whoosh!!!

Do you see memes like this about Mark Zuckerburg?

No. Because he isn't profiting from a product that kills more people than heroine and cocaine.

The abomination of the ACA is the main reason my wife and I are voting Republican in 2016. I was against it when Obama shoved it down our throats and i'm more against it today. It hasn't made things more affordable. For me, it's made healthcare more tricky, expensive and a pain in the ass.

Give me the plan I had last year. With co-pays. With clear lines of communication. A plan that didn't have a huge increase. Fuck Obama. Fuck Aetna and Fuck Big Pharm. :finger: :finger: :finger:

Good post. And Welcome!!

Same goes with maternity issues. We went through this last year with the birth of our first. Hospitals treat pregnant women like they are sick and impose timetables on them. They give you drug after drug, which aren't necessary until you are forced to have a C-section. We went with a midwife (the profession that has delivered more babies than hospitals and doctors). My wife did all the normal stuff, check ups, etc.. .and when it came time to deliver, she did it with ZERO drugs. The birth center, up to October 2014, had delivered over 1000 babies. Only 2 of the mothers had to be rushed to the ER, which is down the road. The time from calling the hospital, to having the baby out at the hospital was 15 minutes +/- 5. Doctors want to deliver on their time, not mother natures. That isn't medicine, not to me. :twocents:

Oxy is a vital med prescribed compassionately and with great effect to patients in palliative care.

Wide spread abuse can be pegged directly on doctors, weak patients with weak wills and support networks and of course the scumbag conks (which may include the family) who created the black market for this shit.

Update.

Worried about maintaining your cartel's position?

Fund "free market" and pain advocacy groups called the Washington Legal Foundation, the Pain Care Forum, and the Power of Pain Foundation to get the FDC to back down from proposed voluntary prescription guidelines.
The Washington Legal Foundation, a nonprofit that litigates to defend “free-market principles,” threatened the CDC with legal action if the agency moved forward with the proposed opioid guidelines. The WLG claimed the CDC’s advisory panel for the guidelines lacked “fair ideological balance,” because it included a doctor who is part of an advocacy effort against opioid addiction. The WLG does not disclose donor information, but has filed friend-of-the-court briefs on behalf of Purdue Pharma, the makers of OxyContin. In a recent article with Pain News Network, a spokesperson for Purdue Pharma conceded: “We’re long-standing supporters of WLF, in addition to several other business and legal organizations. We’ve provided them with unrestricted grants.”
A recently re-filed complaint by the City of Chicago found that Burt Rosen, the chief in-house lobbyist for Purdue Pharma, controls the Pain Care Forum.
The Power of Pain Foundation, a group funded by Purdue Pharma, asked supporters to contact the CDC in opposition to the guidelines, claiming that “taking away pain medication and making providers afraid to prescribe due to your guidelines is only going to make more abusers, increase suicides, and tear apart the lives of millions.”
The over-prescription of opioid products has made the United States the center of the painkiller abuse epidemic. Americans consume about 81 percent of the global supply of oxycodone products (the active ingredient in OxyContin) and almost 100 percent of hydrocodone (the active ingredient used in brands such as Vicodin). More than 16,000 people die from opioid painkiller overdose every year.

The skyrocketing use of opioids in America is also closely linked to the rising heroin crisis, which reached new heights this year. Prescription opioids, which provide a high that is very similar to heroin, are often a gateway drug. As many as four out of five heroin users get started with opioid painkillers.

I've said it before...maybe even in this thread already...but I'll say it again:

Get rid of the cultural dogma about something being "wrong" with people wanting to get high and tell the pharmaceutical companies they can develop and market drugs designed specifically for getting people high while doing minimal ancillary damage. If we did that I'm confident they could come up with things that would make the situation much better for all concerned.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
