Spoke to a friend with the Charleston PD, he was on the scene and said it was one of the most horrifying crime he had been to, mostly because of its location.

Not at all. It's a block down from the old Citadel, in a prominent part of historic Charleston.

Several friends who were first responders there, and only a degree of separation between me and a couple of the victims.

Charleston always handles these kinds of things well - they always come together.

It is in my old patrol district where I was a supervisor for 7 years. It is in fact right on the line- just across the street is the other precinct downtown, the nicer one. But this particular area is nice- Calhoun street doesn't really have a bad area

Unless you consider the College of Charleston which is full of shitheads

There are a few degrees of separation from most people in this town. I met the Sen. A while ago when I was working with Charleston PD on body cameras.

Earlier this morning I actually heard a talking head on MSNBC, in the context of discussing this incident, say that there is a correlation between an increase in multiple gun homicide incidents and the expiration of the Federal "assault weapons" ban.

It's very predictable. Every time something like this happens liberals or progressives or whatever you want to call them start flailing around calling for taking steps that would not have prevented what just happened but would flatter their liberal/progressive world views. Re establish the assault weapons ban. improve background checks. Get rid of the Confederate Battle Flag. On and on. Meanwhile none of it would actually prevent an incident such as the one that is inspiring all the discussion.

BTW, it's a bit f***ed up that the victim's family members were allowed to address the suspect directly...

...AT A BOND HEARING???? :dunce:

Haven't completed the indictment/pretrial and the courts are treating Roof as though he's been convicted??

So much for justice.

And, BTW, I believe he's guilty, but the scum deserves his day in court.

He confessed to the crime. Doesn't that mean there won't be a trial, just a sentencing? His day in court will be a judge calling him a scumbag and sentencing him to die.

Interesting.

Dude's webpage reads like a cs.com forum discussion on race.

. “I have no choice,’’ it reads. “I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country. We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”

In one picture, Mr. Roof is shown posing with wax figures of slaves. In others, he posed with a handgun. He is alone in all the photos, which appear to have been taken at a slave plantation, Sullivan Island, S.C., and at the Museum and Library of Confederate History.

The website links to several pages of long racist rants. Some describe Hispanics as enemies and say that “Negroes” have lower I.Q.s and low-impulse control. The writings are not signed

There still has to be a formal trial with an elocution (admission) before the court, AND the judge must accecpt his plea and elocution.
If this is a capital case, there's a slim chance in hell the judge will accept a guilty plea, as it would unequivocally be overturned on appeal, which is automatic in a capital case.

So...no, his confession doesn't preclude a trial.
